Yeah I could see how given it is relatively easy to fake in a completely open dataset that this would trend to useless.

I really like the “how many hops” filter. Your model is much harder to game. I wonder if that could be combined with my proposed filter so I could find out what my rich friends think vs everyone else lol- but maybe just discrete # of zaps is enough in your framework.

Your model also incentivizes authentic networking if you’re seeking a broader more useful dataset. Which is dope- though I worry if people will actually do that en masse. Maybe the current incentive system is what’s got me jaded on that front, so I’ll remain hopeful for your model and participate accordingly.

This is a good point- I think that’s a useful filter too but I wonder if that wouldn’t create echo chambers. (FTR I literally self donated as a test on this post 😅.)

Do you not think number of discrete zaps under a limit would get us useful broad community info outside our friend bubbles? Self donations would be tough in that frame since I would need a large number of wallets/npubs under my control- or am I naive in thinking this isn’t easy?

I imagine they don’t know any better, but they’re probably doing their best to live a life that was sold to them and/or feed a family in most cases. I do hope they can see the wave in time and find purpose and prosperity in the new world with us!

I love the #nostr protocol and the tech being built on it. The future is exciting.

Nothing’s perfect though. I’m struggling NOT to see a plutocracy forming around content zapped by big players. I know their intentions are good, but when a fat #zap bumps a post to the top automatically are we really getting the voice of the community on our feeds?

I wonder if a filter option like this for a #nostr client makes sense: prioritize by number of zaps under x value, perhaps with a sliding scale so you can make judgements for yourself about how different tiers of #btc wealth value something. You still get the skin in the game aspect of zaps which is way better than the “likes” noise, but might be able to skim off the natural plutocratic effects.

It’s been said plenty… but after a trip to a tradfi bank I feel like saying it again anyway: once you see the #ecash / #lightning / #bitcoin stack as the cash / institution / final settlement layers you really can’t unsee it. This potential of this tech is unbelievable and it doesn’t need centralized marketing to inspire people to build on it… you just feel it and are called to it if you are lucky enough to see it

I regularly attend Pride events with my bi wife and friends. You tend to see things like that there (especially the West Hollywood one). Recommend people who’ve never been to check it out and get a “boots on the ground” perspective- even if it might cause discomfort. I’m certain you’d see the ridiculousness of claims that the movement has been co-opted by some evil cabal or is some kind of psy-op. It’s largely people celebrating being free from oppression and expressing themselves among people who’ve had a similar experience… something which the BTC community should aspire to celebrate in their own way one day.
