Ok, I just remember that I got periods where I'am pretty paranoid. After living in an apartment building with mentally ill people as neighbours. (just plain bad luck!)
And when I got a periods with high paranoia, I feel people following me, things looking at me etc. but the big difference is that Ther Is Nothing when I look behind me, or check if something is looking at me from the kitchen etc.
Even when I'am eating from dumpsters at night and it is as black as it can be, and even with paranoia, I never see a freaking ghost.
In the paranoia periods I sometimes also get the idea that an spider is a spider on my table or in my bed. But it is just a silly idea that pop up in my head and there is nothing in reality.

I could imagine that it is more likely to see hallusinations at old age.
"Why is that?" - Likely because you know exactly how your mom looked like. It would not be that hard to visualize someone you remember clearly in your brain.
For your brain to invent the image of someone out of thin air and hallusionate it to existense is a bigger task/harder.
- If I can dream about my dead mom, why would it be it much harder to hallusinate her as a ghost after her death?
- I could likely do it right here, right now. If I really wanted to hallusinate my mom. (I'am a super mental viszual person) but I won't attempt because it could lead to a permanent habbit/problem 😂
I just realize that when you meet a person who claims to have seen a ghost.
They just told you that they see hallucinations.
And likely got Schizophrenia.
- The worst part is they likely don't even know themself, and if you told them to seek professional help. They would likely not like you any more.
