Just listened to an informative and inspiring interview of Alexander Medvednikov, creator of the V programming language.

The interview is in Russian, as I am not fluent in that language I turned on English sub-titles and read along.

Very much worth the time for me, as I very much value Alexander's approach. The last twenty minutes gave me insights into his values and priorities. I think his goals for what computing and tech could be is inspiring.

The V programming language is still in beta and it might be a while before it reaches 1.0, so heads up on that.

>However, the concept of a website being a program instead of just a collection of documents is really interesting and I would like to eventually do more with that.

If you are talking about webapps that replace desktop programs, don't. I think there is a case for the web being more than a remote document retrieval tool, but only in a limited sense. Shopping sites, social media sites Internet forums, guestbooks, wikis, etc have their place, but we don't need any more examples of "photoshop in the browser".

I've been thinking of this idea for years. It's a network protocol where the client is simply a JIT compiler and the server serves source code for games and other software. Kind of like Adobe Flash, except that it doesn't use the web browser and the source code for software is always available (not counting obfuscation).

I was thinking more in the informational sense, not webapps replacing desktop applications.

I'm very much appreciate wikis.

Yeah, we agree on that, too 😄

What do you think? Did #china intentionally damage these cables? Or was it just negligence?

I am not a fan of Apple's recent products (the last 10 years or so).

However, I am interested in what's going on here. Mainly because my biased opinion is that AI is mostly a scam to artificially boost tech companies' perceived value.

If Apple isn't going in on the AI hype, hopefully that will be a wake up call to investors and tech commentators.

Most everything that Bill Gates promotes is bad news for regular people.

RSS is much more important than "AI" - my view on this issue.

This week, two customers contacted me about the keyboards on their ThinkPad T580 laptops not working. Makes me think it is a software issue. One is Windows 11 Pro, for sure, as I have it now and am testing. I think the other T580 has Windows 10 Pro.

There was a BIOS update available, but problem still happens after that.

External USB keyboard works fine even when built in keyboard does not work.

Anyone else seeing these issues with ThinkPad T580 or T480 laptops?

I think I found something that I had been missing.

If you are coming from Windows, I do highly recommend the Cinnamon desktop.

With Linux, you get more choices... which can bring confusion because you aren't used to that with Windows.

The Cinnamon desktop environment is one of perhaps six major desktop environment options, with many more less used options available, too.

Cinnamon is the desktop environment developed by Linux Mint, so is default with that, but you can install and use it easily on many Linux "distos" (distributions of software that are bundled together).

Linux Mint Debian Edition is a good place to get started.

I am very happy with my model year 2000 car that does not have any of these invasive tracking electronics.

It would be great if regular people cared and stopped using #Microsoft... but most don't seem to care or have any curiosity about alternatives.

I do sell quite a few refurbished computers with #Linux, but it is tiny numbers compared to the Windows computers I sell and work on.

I haven't even checked to see if my instance is on any block lists. It probably is.
