CAMPAIGN GAINS MOMENTUM WITH
OVER 13,000 SIGNATURES
"A petition calling for Transport for London (TfL) to introduce women-only carriages on the London Underground has gained over 13,000 signatures.
A UCL student, Camille, 21, who grew up in London, started the Change.org petition on 30 September.
The campaign page states: “Public harassment of women on the London Underground is a growing issue, and TFL’s approach is failing — we always see it, we do say it, but it’s still not sorted. That’s why I’m calling for Sadiq Khan to introduce women-only carriages.”
The petition demands the immediate introduction of “at least one dedicated women-only carriage on every Tube line”.
At London Bridge station, women gave their views on the petition.
Ciara, 28, who works as a project manager, was in favour of the proposal.
She said: “Especially on the night tubes. I don’t get intimidated easily but a group of guys, especially if they’re a bit drunk and rowdy, can be quite intimidating.
“You generally feel safer surrounded by other women.”
Jessica, a 27-year-old tech consultant, said: “I think it would be more comfortable.
“I haven’t had any experiences but it’s definitely just the eyes and stuff. The behaviour makes you uncomfortable.”
But these women had concerns over whether the plan could realistically be implemented.
Ciara said: “I think it would be really hard to monitor.
“Is there going to be someone from TfL on each carriage or are there going to be police officers? I don’t know if that would make women feel any safer.”
Jessica said: “People have a hard enough time getting on during peak hour, so I think it would be hard to enforce.
“I think it would make women more uncomfortable if it wasn’t being enforced and then men were invading the space that was for women.”

But not every woman was in favour of introducing single-sex carriages.
Anca, a 44-year-old doctor, asked: “Is it necessary?
“I feel safe as it is now.”
Another woman, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “It doesn’t make sense.
“I’m a Muslim. Muslim women may love such an idea. This is a mixed country and we’ve got different religions here. When in Rome, you be as Romans.”

I recently made the mistake of bringing up the topic of my blossoming TERFdom with a couple of my friends. I should have known it would not end well, but I tend to forget that good arguments, facts, and figures are never enough to actually get anyone to think critically. I guess I also forget what sort of crazy-ass gender dystopia I’m living in.
I was talking about the obvious problem with letting a middle school age boy self-select to change in the girls’ locker room by claiming he is transgender when one of my two friends said in response,
“I know you’re not going to really like this, but this kind of reminds me when people were worried about lesbians being in the same spaces as women; that they were going to sexually harass or harm other women.”
Excuse me. What was that?
I was not prepared for this argument because I can’t conceive how these two situations are actually analogous. I just hadn’t considered that anyone would try to make a point like this, which left me without the words to form a proper response. I kind of lost my temper after that, I’m ashamed to admit.
I figure that if my intelligent friend could believe such a thing made any amount of sense, surely other people could, as well. I’m ready to form my argument now. Buckle up.
Boys are Not Girls and Men are Not Women - The Most Important Point
I’m not going to play games with reality, nor consider this asinine assertion that men are not men because they say they are not. If you cannot live in a reality with objective truths, we cannot have a conversation about anything in earnest.
In the interest of said truth, honesty, and a potentially fruitful discussion, I’m going to remind my readers of the reality in which we will proceed:
A lesbian is a woman who is sexually attracted to other women. Trans-identified men (trans women) are not women. They are men who identify as women. Most of them are sexually attracted to women (because the majority of humans are heterosexual). Even if you believe there is a “gender identity” inside of people, trans-identified men are still biologically male, no matter the quantity or severity of the actions they’ve taken to feel or appear more feminine. They are men, and allowing them to enter women’s safe spaces means you are allowing potential predators into our spaces.
Even if you’d like to argue that all trans-identified men are not predatory by nature of their “transness”, allowing males into our safe spaces makes it impossible for us to keep out the actual predators. Men, as a sex class, are a threat to us, and the best way for us to ensure they cannot hurt us in these spaces is to keep them all out, regardless of their “gender identity”. That’s not taking into account all of the real psychological damage already underway. (As Exulansic says, “Good men stay out so that bad men stand out.”)
I find it genuinely frightening to see the impact this ideology has had on my friends and their capacity to think about this issue rationally. It is truly as simple as “they” said it would be: you change the definition of a word, reinforce that change, require people to talk about said subject to use the new language “correctly”, severely over-punish any dissent and bam! You have yourself a new fucking reality.
It seems that my friends truly believe that these men are just misunderstood women.
We all read the same dystopian novels in school. We were warned about these things. Don’t you guys remember?"

Starlink is a satellite internet service created by Elon Musk’s SpaceX. It currently has more than 1,600 satellites orbiting in space, with permission from U.S. authorities to eventually launch up to 12,000, reports the Guardian’s Adam Gabbatt.
Starlink satellite dishes have a self-heating feature to melt snow, which may be why cats are drawn to it, reports the Guardian. Engineers created this feature to stop snow from interfering with the signal, but can the dish handle a pile of felines? On Twitter, Taylor says five cats snuggling on his dish interrupts his video streaming and “slows everything down.”

"Many people have observed that a lot of those at the No Kings protests are white, left-wing Boomers. I don’t have demographic data to back this up, but based on my observations of Boomers in my friends and family circle, it does seem that this group is clinging the hardest and loudest to Wokeism and general left-wing derangement. I do have some Millennial friends who are still drunk on the Kool-Aid, but those who are tend to identify as some flavor of LGBT+ even though they are straight. They also tend to be rather mentally ill and comfortable sharing their struggles with mental illness, or their sheer inability to “adult”, on social media. By identifying into the LGBT+ community, they gained a lot of corrosive power that they are now grappling with losing. On the surface, this looks very different from the left-wing Boomers who are retired after having some career success, are generally well-educated, consider themselves allies of the LGBT+ community while not identifying as part of it, and who don’t air their dirty laundry on Facebook.
Given that my dad is in this demographic of Boomers, this is the primary source of my frustration. Below are just my general observations of this group as I try to figure out their motivations for going down with a ship that to everyone else is obviously sinking. (Obviously, Boomers are a large demographic population, and this certainly does not apply to every or even most Boomers.)
Protesting No Longer Works
First, I share their concerns about Trump sending the National Guard unasked into liberal cities, and I don’t trust Trump. But I’m under no delusions that taking to the streets accomplishes anything productive other than making the people who participate feel good about their own sense of righteousness. Our society is so polarized that protesting is no longer a viable means of effecting change. By and large, it’s become a way to signal your politics.
I think the people marching would be more effective if they sat down and listened with the intention to understand those of us who are disaffected by the left wing and to understand why they are hemorrhaging support. Rather than brandishing their righteousness they need to focus more on the hard work of looking inward and course-correcting.
I also think that people on both the right and the left would do well to understand radicalization and how right-wing radicalism fuels left-wing radicalism, which in turn fuels right-wing radicalism, creating the nasty spiral we’re in. We need to learn how algorithms distort our perception of the world and how to be more savvy about our social media use and news consumption, etc. But hey, it’s easier and more fulfilling to march. There’s no heady sense of righteousness from realizing you were wrong about some things or under the sway of powerful algorithms.
The Desire to be Relevant
My parents were never introspective people. I don’t think that’s a Boomer trait, I think it spans generations. But I do see that with Boomers there seems to be a desperation to be seen as relevant and attuned to the up-and-coming generation in a way their parents weren’t. My grandparents held onto antiquated, racist ideas and were never comfortable with the gay rights movement. To be clear, my grandparents weren’t cruel people who used slurs, and they welcomed my husband, who is brown and the child of immigrants, into the family. They didn’t believe in segregation. But they would make remarks about white people being “normal,” as though other races weren’t, or they would downplay how bad Jim Crow was. Like many people my age, we loved them because they were our grandparents, even if we rolled our eyes at their perceptions of race issues. They were products of their time and couldn’t help it."

Childcare sexual abuse is mostly committed by men. Failing to recognise that puts children at risk
"Australians are reeling from the news that Victorian childcare worker Joshua Dale Brown has been charged with more than 70 offences against children, including rape.
As 1,200 children await results for sexually transmitted infections, a horror no parent should ever face, media commentary has begun to focus on how this case might have implications for male childcare workers.
Early childhood education is a heavily female-dominated field, and past inquiries into child sexual abuse by male educators have found that, in efforts to avoid appearing discriminatory, male workers are often subject to less scrutiny. This dynamic is compounded by efforts for gender balance in childcare, particularly for the perceived benefits of male role models.
Ironically, this fear of seeming biased can create the very conditions that offenders exploit – grooming colleagues, parents and children to commit abuse while hidden in plain sight.
While it is an uncomfortable fact to confront, research shows men with a sexual interest in children are disproportionately more likely to work with children, including in early education and care. Recent data show that one in 20 men in the Australian community are motivated offenders (individuals who reported both sexual interest in and offending against children). However, they are almost three times more likely to work with children compared to other men.
Unfortunately, systematic data on child sexual abuse in childcare settings are limited. However, existing findings align with the only comprehensive study conducted on this issue, which followed the highly publicised McMartin Preschool trial in the United States.
This study examined cases from 1983 to 1985, and identified 270 daycare centres where 1,639 children were found to have experienced substantiated sexual abuse. Although men made up only about 5% of childcare staff, they were responsible for 60% of the offences. The abuse was often severe, with 93% of victims subjected to some form of penetrative sexual violence.
Those who deliberately pursue employment with children to abuse them are often referred to as “professional perpetrators”. These individuals typically have multiple victims and pose a high risk of repeated harm.
In our current research on serial child sex offenders in childcare settings in Australia and internationally, we identified six cases involving between seven and 87 confirmed victims under the age of five. Five of the offenders were male and one was female. Together, they sexually abused at least 245 children.
There were striking similarities across these cases. Offenders primarily targeted pre-verbal children, evaded detection for long periods, and were only exposed through external investigations, most often related to the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.
Much like the details emerging from the case of Joshua Dale Brown in Victoria, none of these offenders was uncovered through internal safeguarding systems.
As is also alleged in the case of Brown, the perpetrators in our case studies were not isolated offenders. They were operating within online communities that normalise and reinforce abusive behaviour and the sharing of child sex abuse material of children who were in their care.

If, as some suggest, male workers are subject to close and sometimes unfair scrutiny, these cases highlight a troubling contradiction. Despite this purported scrutiny, child sexual abuse by male staff can and does occur over extended periods without detection in childcare settings. In fact, evidence from another case suggests staff are often hesitant to raise concerns about male colleagues for fear of being perceived as discriminatory.
It is important to highlight that although women comprise a small minority of child sexual abuse offenders, the reluctance to view women, particularly mothers, as potential perpetrators can also contribute to such abuse going undetected.
There also needs to be greater awareness of how these offenders infiltrate and groom institutions. In the case studies we analysed, offenders were seen as kind and competent workers. They were often friendly with management or held senior positions themselves, and would socialise outside of work with families whose children they cared for. Even when whistleblowers raised an alarm about the offenders, these concerns were often dismissed, with some offenders even being promoted."
