Developer of Hauprich, a layer-one cryptocurrency built on the Nostr protocol. Still in pre-alpha, so don't look for it yet. Follow me here for updates.

A similar reason for why the secp256k1 elliptic curve was chosen over the secp256r1 curve for DSA signatures.

Although, that does not mean that any of those are immune to future discoveries of vulnerabilities or backdoors or being broken.

And if/when that day comes, then the community will have to accept a hard fork. Fingerprinting all the accepted block history, and using new hashing or signing algorithms for future blocks.

Could Satoshi have added a small cryptographic spec to each transaction to detail the hashing and signing algo, allowing them to be changed w/out a fork? Or would that come with its own risks of the blockchain's security being subverted if it is made too easy to update such things.

On a typical day, I have ~10+ emails waiting for me when I log into work... can't tell if this is intentional as part of my job as a dev team lead, or if I am just being mistaken for Google search.

Why ask Google when you can ask Drew-gle.

It's tough to find the time and mental energy to work on my own software project after working a full-time job... plus overtime... plus spending time with my spouse... plus spending time with pets... plus having a social life (kind of).

That's why I wake up a couple of hours before work everyday to try to sneak in a tiny bit of coding on my project.

I'm just hoping that tiny bit by bit will add up to something large 🤞

Like the back button of a browser, but in the terminal instead. Makes life so easy when scripting anything that pops in and out of child directories.

I am a pushd/popd maxi, and use cd as little as possible.

Yes, hi. nostr:npub1tcekjparmkju6k83r5tzmzjvjwy0nnajlrwyk35us9g7x7wx80ys9hjmky have you considered GitHub triggers with Jenkins? You could setup build jobs for exactly what you want, and they could be triggered by new commits or releases.

I was going to suggest that Jenkins can do polling. But agreed that a webhook is certainly more efficient. Either way, Jenkins is a nice, free option!

This is absolutely not describing Ordinal Theory, it works exactly the same as how a bitcoin UTXO works where every UTXO still has a branchable value, except this will limit to a single input UTXO.

A single UTXO cannot be collected since it is spent by the signer and new UTXOs are generated as output.

I am suggesting that people may have an interest in holding onto a UTXO that has a short ancestry. Which is not necessarily due to just novelty, but also since it requires less storage to hold the fewer ancestors and less effort by a validator to validate the shorter history.

And static without the ideas of those people in the masses. Unfortunately, much of those ideas are never ventured due to fear that their ideas will be shut down by those in power... or worse, by their fellow masses.

With this thinking, the internet should have stopped innovating once aol.com was released.

As John C. Dvorak once said "The Macintosh uses an experimental pointing device called a 'mouse.' There is no evidence that people want to use these things."

People who settle for technology of today will become the luddites of tomorrow.

Nothing helps me unwind from work like cooking dinner in the kitchen while drinking some #wine and watching some #ancientaliens. 🍷👽

People love when they receive an old coin or an old monetary note. Can we build that same excitement when receiving a UTXO?

For blockchains, I would say not likely since any given UTXO could have several inputs, from several inputs, from several inputs. Not very special (many-to-many relationship).

What about a unique cryptocurrency that is not blockchain based, and UTXO can only be generated from a single input? Somewhat more special (one-to-many relationship).

Not only would eliminating the bulk of a blockchain allow each UTXO to have a more direct, special history, but it would also allow each UTXO to be more scalable since it would only require the storage of that one UTXO's ancestors.

No need to store the entire network to validate the spending of a UTXO, just store the linear UTXO ancestry of the one UTXO being spent back to the sole origin/root UTXO of the ledger.

Any mobile wallet could easily store all the proof they need for validating their UTXO, and optionally delete any UTXO and its distinct ancestry after it is spent to maintain a lean wallet of only what is needed to validate the unspent.

Sure, there are some complications that need to be sorted out when eliminating the blockchain. Such as protecting against double-spending. But are blockchains really immune to that either? Often times, there are short forks in the blockchain until a victor is picked (some choose the longest chain, some the most dense).

These are some of the ideas behind my Hauprich project, a cryptocurrency built on the Nostr protocol. Will some of them stick? Probably. Will some be tossed? Probably.

One thing I know for sure is that it is easy to criticize a new idea. In fact, it would be quite hard to conceive an new idea that is immune to criticism. So, I welcome any criticism because it only paves the path between what the new idea is and what it must become.

Follow me for more updates as I develop this project into something quite neat.

But is that a bullet point to the credit of ActivityPub?

A bridge connecting two neighborhoods is beautiful, and I am glad to have it. But I still prefer the rules of the neighborhood thay I live in. Even if I do visit some houses in the other neighborhood across the bridge.

Whitney Webb is a gem.

Understanding what Threads is doing with the fediverse is important to everybody working on social media protocols. nostr:npub1dqwvfayf2jwlw2ftl3wxgy22w0qveqtta4sfg8u8gdauzp7kr8tsnvcr3q was invited to visit Meta and has a very through write up worth reading: nostr:note1uza7vwt6l64wfz2dqxm0zpzh825tkm6rvw3xardmje0wktvxdxrq7qqeg8

nostr:npub1dqwvfayf2jwlw2ftl3wxgy22w0qveqtta4sfg8u8gdauzp7kr8tsnvcr3q was my co-founder on Planetary, the secure scuttlebutt app I worked on before pivoting to Nos and Nostr. He’s very insightful, if a bit long winded.

I’m going to a foocamp hosted by meta next month, hopefully I’ll be able to ask additional questions and keep talking to folks and learning. Getting the big tech companies on board with open social protocols is potentially both dangerous and very powerful.

I simple man... #ActivityPub bad... #Nostr good.

Who has two thumbs and is excited to cook some pizza tonight? 👍👍

At least as long as there are no mishaps with the pizza cutter 😅
