What's with job adverts not listing that driving is required? I've applied to two jobs now and both of them have required me to drive and I had no clue so obviously I cannot do them...
Just had to deal with family being racist/transphobic etc, got angry and walked out of their place.
Thought they were better than this, to them it all came down to "just disagreeing"...
Played some #PSO Episode 3 online with a friend earlier (on my own hosted server) -- just using standard decks to test it out -- worked very well and was actually a lot of fun!
Kind of tempted to actually play through the story and build up a deck now so I can play it properly with others... never been into card games but maybe this is one I'll enjoy.
#PhantasyStar #PhantasyStarOnline
Turns out if winetricks wants to download a file, but has a corrupt version in the location it looks for it before downloading, it will just error instead of redownloading the file.
Somehow wasted 3 hours on that, when I could have just deleted it from the start to make it fetch it again.
Just spent like 3 hours to get PSO V2 PC running on my Steam Deck because I am insane, but with this done, I officially have all Phantasy Star games (and versions!) running on Linux (other than Nova, that works nowhere other than the Vita itself).
I'm trying to use #syncthing to have some files consistently sync across the network, but whenever I set up syncthing on a machine, the internet becomes unusable, even when there's no folders set up! Only on the PC though.
I install the following packages: syncthing, syncthingtray, syncthingtray-kde-plasma on Debian 12 with KDE Plasma.
Everyone talks about how awesome syncthing is, but I feel like I must be missing something here: Why would it ruin my network when running?

Even if you want native to be the endgame, wouldn't Proton still be good anyway, as it increases market share in the first instance? It could get to a point where people rather make native to reduce friction.
Seems weird to get angry at no Native, the alternative is no game.
nostr:npub1tvyywvxytrc5tkf6evft4p5l3jlhgc7u5jcsz42kvc7hfazgsy0s28q4u9 Maybe! Just interesting it's completely different now than it was a decade ago more than anything.
nostr:npub1tvyywvxytrc5tkf6evft4p5l3jlhgc7u5jcsz42kvc7hfazgsy0s28q4u9 Even for the simple personalisations, like a custom ringtone / alarm?
I've noticed this mostly through PSO though of course - back in 2010, 90% of people were using custom HUD skins, but in 2023, it seems 90% of people are not using custom HUD skins, even though the install is just extracting some files into a folder.
I'm not sure how to describe this, but people seem like they personalise things a lot less in this day and age.
For example back when I was a kid, everyone had custom ringtones, but nobody does now.
Back when I was playing #PSOBB, people would mod the game's aesthetics so much, whether it was using custom skins or even creating them.
Now? Nobody does any of these things, everyone has and uses all the same things, don't customise stuff even if given the option and it's like... what happened!?
Best part about the full text search update (which is now live on mastodon.social) is that searching my own posts is even easier because it's actually chronological when searching now.
nostr:npub1swyxvkhew2qcjpgmsf7c4salsxsedx4veavatjd5yzhxhmtk58aq54snpj Hi, you can already search only your own posts in Mastodon and I believe it's been implemented for a bit.
Your search term needs to be:
from:blogdiva SEARCHTERM
Without the @, it's a standard search prefix that's common in search engines.

The real point though is that if Valve never got involved, we'd still almost have no games to play, and probably using some complicated management program.
So whatever Proton actually is, Valve absolutely deserves a lot of credit for the state of Linux gaming.

This "Musk is just trying to destroy #Twitter!" narrative gets around a lot, but if this was the case, couldn't he just shut it down without the song and dance...?
The only credible argument I can see against this is that by slowly eroding it, people gather somewhere else, as you have a lot of people wanting to stay for various reasons.
But if Twitter disappeared tomorrow, people wouldn't gather somewhere else primarily, it takes a long time for social networks to cement themselves.
nostr:npub1rcfyuvd9t8ljxf2zvrsamgqdppd5auggp6mmx9hvhwrl7swnt0zsqstu72 Interesting, I found Lutris very easy to use, you just install it as a Flatpak and then add your games and it works - maybe you'll need to change the Wine version but that's about it.
Only got one game on Steam now because I needed multiplayer (Tetris Effect), everything else is all mine.
nostr:npub1rcfyuvd9t8ljxf2zvrsamgqdppd5auggp6mmx9hvhwrl7swnt0zsqstu72 I still use GOG all the time, because I am here for all the DRM-free goodness.
You can just use Proton with the GOG installers by running it through a launcher such as Heroic or Lutris. Supposedly Heroic works quite well for automatic updates and stuff, but I use Lutris.
I just hate Steam, if it isn't obvious.
nostr:npub1532ksva0y353dymx4pd07rkm4jaqp7t5raguq8k27luxl6ajncuqvp5ffy I don't even get what the point is - I don't like Steam either but there's this really cool thing about the work Valve put into Wine itself and the Proton compatibility layer: They're all FOSS and you can use them however you want.
So... what exactly is the issue people have? Corporations can absolutely suck but sometimes they do deserve credit for their contributions.
I still don't understand why #GOG seems to have some issue with supporting Linux.
Obviously it's work, but I would think their DRM-free philosophy would be mostly appreciated by those using Linux, so...
Of course, since they just give you installers, everything "works" regardless but still.
