I visited Kabarnet in July last year.
My son helped plan the water infrastructure, and I was deeply moved. I supported the orphanage with private donations — and I want to do more. 🙏🏽
👧🏽 The Orphanage & School
In the hills of Kabarnet, a local initiative provides shelter, education, and hope for children who have lost their families due to illness, poverty, or social instability.
• 🏠 Home to 60 children between the ages of 4 and 16
• 📚 Primary school on-site (also open to children from the surrounding area)
• 🥣 Daily meals, emotional support, and access to healthcare
• 🌱 Life skills: gardening, hygiene, teamwork

💧 The Water Crisis
Kabarnet suffers from unreliable access to clean water, especially during the dry season. The children and staff often walk long distances for water or depend on rainwater collection, which is neither safe nor sufficient.

🚰 Our Solution: The Kabarnet Water Project
To ensure a sustainable water supply, the following steps are being prepared:
1. Deep Borehole Drilling
• Target depth: ~100 meters
• Solar-powered pump system
• Clean water for the orphanage, school, and nearby families
2. Water Storage System
• 10,000-liter tank on a steel tower
• Gravity-fed distribution across the property
3. Irrigation for Food Security
• Small-scale farming to grow vegetables and fruits
• Teaching kids sustainable agriculture
4. Water & Hygiene Education
• Workshops on hygiene, water safety, and conservation
• Training led by local health workers
One of the most beautiful and surreal moments on a kayak:
We paddled out to the seals within a rare 30-minute window – an experience you simply can’t book.
Out of nowhere, a southern right whale surfaced just meters in front of me — lost in the bay, powerful and graceful.
A single fin slap, and it vanished again into the deep.
