I stumbled across Nostr 9 months ago and would describe myself as interested user. It has been facinating to listen to the original protocol & app builders and Nostr advocates and the experience has encouraged me, together with other reasons, to engage in social media for the first time and for this I acknowledge a debt to developers and entrepreneurs who have made this possible.

However, one aspect of the conversations I've followed has always struck a disonant chord, and it's the phrase 'we are winning'. Winning against who? Is this a zero sum game? And aside from the male orientation of the term, will the idea of winning as a motivating force carry any meaning in the long term, where deeper sources of energy will need to be found. Sources which include a feminine aspect.

I can accept the phrase as a motivating rallying cry in the first stage of attempting to build a new protocol, but now that has been achieved should 'surviving' be the next focus and is it possible to envisage a future of surviving without winning?

Is it worth remembering that revolutions tend to mimic the very things they overthrew before becoming even worse. So is Nostr about revolution or about building a protocol to survive a hundred years? The later takes a very different road to the former, not seeking glory or fame, not seeking to overthrow, but building from the ground up and slowly making a difference in a way which will allow users will experience something more than simply replicating their experience on other apps.

Stay humble and build slowly.

There's only one picture of my husband and I online in any English-language context, and it's not labeled as such but rather is buried in a Twitter thread and just kind of put in there as one of many photos, on purpose as an easter egg.

We like privacy, so we don't post many pictures.

But since I already showed my left ear on Nostr (likely for the first time ever in a public picture, funnily enough), I might as well give Nostr the exclusive to my husband as well. It's technically not new, which is why I can show it, but rather I can just be more specific about it. It's a picture of us from back in 2021 at Sahl Hasheesh in Egypt that we've had quietly online for three years. As readers of Broken Money know, his name is Mohamed Badran.

Mohamed is the editor of all of my long-form content, deals with the technical backend of the website, and inspires me to be better as a person every day.

My trollish side wants to draw those funny lines of who is standing straight vs who is leaning in, since it favors me there.

But the funny thing is that he's like the most masculine and dominant person around, to such extent that he's super chill while doing so. He has a scar from a machete cut on his forearm. His extended family and friend group gravitates around him as their patriarch. He leans in here because pictures mean nothing to him. He has nothing to prove in pictures because he proves it in person instead. He leans because he knows leaning means nothing. That which is strong is flexible. The Laozi of leaning.
