Every morning I wake to a perfectly wonderful cosmos beyond judgment. Yes, this world may appear equal parts brutal, though this is its nature, this does not change. Thus to ponder good or bad is to rather distort matters by viewing life through the lens of preferences.

Though I will mention this: less prioritising of stay-at-home-motherhood is symptomatic of the breakdown of heterosexual relationships, as reproduction has always been the purpose of such mate-bonding. If the phenomenon is common throughout society, this situation leads to loneliness and a meaning crisis for many, and ultimately to population decline, does it not?

Is it changing for the good?

Once upon a time (less than 100 years ago) it was the most popular occupation, now rarely so. Society is changing so fast. Good for you.

I've always had a bit of a nordic streak. I liked a lot of the music from the region (not just Finland, also Norway especially, and Sweden to a lesser extent) since I was in high school. I also had a bit of a thing for languages, and I studied Finnish and Norwegian to varying degrees in my spare time, purely as a hobby.

My wife and I were open to living either in Finland or Norway, just to experience living abroad, and I looked for jobs in both countries. The company I worked for at the time was looking for people in the Helsinki office, and we decided to go on an adventure. I've loved it here ever since, and very much can't imagine going back to Canada at this point. I still have a lot of love for Alberta (and a lot of ...not love... for much of the rest of the country), but I'm very much used to life here now, and I think I would have a much harder time going back than moving to Finland in the first place.

So to a certain extent, it wasn't ever Finland specifically, but once I arrived here, it really stuck. And now, of course, I'm advocating for Bitcoin here through BTC HEL. I feel grateful to be here, and this is one of the ways I'm giving back. I'm really excited and hopeful that what started at BTC HEL 2025 continues, and we just build on it, not just in Finland, but in the Nordics and in all of Europe as well.

Some may have noticed that I change my Nostr profile to my real name and face.

When I first signed up, I didn't know what to call myself so I just copied my old username and profile picture from Twitter. But after meeting Bitcoiners in real life, I decided I want to enter this space as myself.

I have a long-held fear of being seen and couldn't write from the heart without hiding behind an avatar. And to some degree, this made sense in a space where I am being censored and monitored.

I also know that what's important to me are people and community. The downstream consequences of life moving more and more online are so evident in society today and it's making us disconnected and isolated. That is not what social media should be for. I want to connect on a human level, even in my online interactions.

I thought I was just joining another social media platform. But instead I find myself being challenged to grow again. And I'm here for it 🦋
