The situation in Syria as of 15:00 Damascus time:

Most of Syria, including Damascus, is under rebel control.

Assad has fled and abdicated, Prime Minister Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali has had the courage to stay and is making arrangements to hand over full power to the rebels.

Russia is in contact with all the major rebel groups, with whom it appears to be discussing the future of its bases in Latakia province.

The US will not withdraw from Syria and will continue to occupy the At-Tanf area and the north-eastern part of the country.

Iran is reducing its military presence in western Syria.

Israel occupies part of Syria near the Golan Heights and declares it a ‘closed military zone’. It also attacks abandoned SAA depots.

Hezbollah withdraws its units into Lebanese territory. The Lebanese army reinforces border security with Syria.

Iraq continues to move armoured and mechanised brigades towards the border with Syria. Hashd Shaabi units have also been observed there.

Turkey intends to eliminate the Kurdish presence at least west of the Euphrates in the near future (Manbij and adjacent areas will be occupied by the SNA). Areas east of the Euphrates are also under threat.

Amid mass looting and pillaging, a curfew was imposed in Damascus from 4pm to 5am.

My grey tabby just found this nutcracker on the floor and used her lip scent glands to mark it, for future reference...

Extract:

The irony of our politics is that progressive ideas fit perfectly with progressive power. Every progressive idea makes progressives more powerful. If the real world changes so that the exact opposite idea is the powerful idea, progressives will change their mind.

On February 1, 2020, insouciance toward Covid was a progressive idea. On March 1, 2020, paranoia toward Covid was a progressive idea. What changed was not anything new we learned scientifically—but just that President Trump came out as insouciant. Suddenly, the only way to rebel was to be paranoid. So, instead of going to Chinatown to lick doorknobs, we all had to mask up. If Trump had gone the other way and talked about our precious bodily fluids, the world would have followed the Swedish model.

Progressives do not believe in the American system of government, only in power. Conservatives do not believe in power, only in the American system of government. Therefore, progressives always win and conservatives always lose. And as for the American system of government—how’s that working out for you, conservatives? Is it the best system of government in history, or the worst? Or, in some strange way, both?

> It would be easy. It would be easy if we were pointed in the right direction. Fortunately for our enemies, we are still pointed in the wrong direction. Since this will not change easily, I expect it to be hard. I even admit that I want it to be as hard as possible, since I think a change in direction is necessary. Only unbent reality can inflict that change.

This is the most important book any developer could ever own... it explains GNU autoconf, automake, autotools, and also Linux m4 and how the GNU project uses it (m4sh and m4-sugar etc)...

It teaches you how to write your own shell in C code.

This is what bootstrapping looks like, gentlemen.

Buy hard copy, and teach your children.

Anyone else here old enough to remember when that missile went up from Whidbey Air Force base to try to shoot down Airforce One?

For now, I will just leave this here:

Emperor John II Comnenus, son of Alexius, is a peculiar figure.

He was unusually ugly and short. The Crusaders derisively referred to him as "the Moor." But he came to be known as John the Beautiful because of his exceptional moral character.

The Byzantine Marcus Aurelius. 🧵

A worthy tweeter thread.

Yet we can hope that men, even at the last hour, will still be men.

so funny coincidence, the stores here are giving away turkeys if you can afford 100 USD and spend it in one shop

I assume that means... real patriotic Americans 1/ can't afford to buy the Turkeys and 2/ are probably going hungry too

This country is so messed up. Remember almsgiving these next two weeks gents. I'm sure there are good Americans and Patriots out there who need you to have your eyes open

Anyway, wifey scored a free bird by accident. So did the lady in line behind her and my wife (who didn't really want or need the turkey offered it to her, to spare her bothering to hold up the line and go back to get *her* bird, but she said her son handled that and didn't want one). So anyway, it's sitting in our fridge, thawing, and unloved, but I'm sure we can get a week's worth of meals of it

Americans who are not hurting so bad are like 'how on earth did I just spend 100 USD on this' (answer: inflation)

American Dream 2024 -- inflate the economy so not only is there a 5 USD Loss Leader chicken in every Costco Rotisserie, raised at an Avian flu farm in Nebraska with 100 milliion birds on site, but also turkeys are basically free and accidental

Discussing the BTC/SAT equivalent of CDN and Canadian Geese:

sUreknoT of the norf:

to buy a goose now is over 100 cdn zogs

Me:

BTC surpassing the Loonie soon? Either way, CDN and BTC cost about the same goose-wise

OK that's 77,852 SATS per CAD-goose

At current Satoshi/Zog ratios

So... around 778 'likes' on #crustr buys you a goose for christmas... please put a penny in the old man's sats!
