MSM like the NYT are using a tired old argument to smear bitcoin miners. They are all hypocrites unless they are willing to ditch their devices powered by electricity coming from the grid. Phones, computers, EVs and more all use the same electricity that powers those very same miners.
One argument that they could bring up is those managing power plants may wish to sell electricity to the highest bidder. Bitcoin miners have the potential to buy electricity at a higher rate than consumers. This in turn would mean there is less electricity available for consumers, as miners will continually demand more electricity.
The price of bitcoin moving up is nice but the real excitement is the building upon the network to make bitcoin more accessible and improving the user experience.
