FYI, "because it's not Bitcoin" is a brain dead response that indicates tribalistic feelings are being substituted for technical understanding of the underlying technologies.

People are thinking about the Samourai situation the wrong way IMO.

They’re worried about hiding (KYC vs non-KYC) like it matters.

"Oh, I see you’ve bought a house, but we have no idea where you got the money for it and can’t trace it back to a sats purchase you made through your bank. We do see you paid taxes on $60K per year and have a $5M house, but we will leave you alone in this citadel since we can’t trace the specific sats to your bank account!”

FFS, if they’re coming after your property, they’re coming after your property. They don’t give a fuck about your rights, and they don’t really care how you got what you have. You think it matters they can’t *prove* you got it through sats appreciation? They can’t prove someone else didn’t lose his keys, either. They don’t care.

The beauty of the technology is they literally cannot seize this one asset unless you volunteer the keys. They can jail you, they can murder you, but they can’t take it from you, and more importantly they can’t do so remotely. They need to expend resources and be on camera, in person. This is a very big handicap and a huge advertisement to others to store their wealth out of their reach.

As you may know I have recommended the use of these solutions to gain privacy, especially Liquid versus the expensive and inefficient coinjoin, but this does not mean that I am not aware of the risks.

My point of view is strictly pragmatic, I use these solutions for my own benefit being aware of the risks.

The example to follow is eMule, which in many ways I have always considered the precursor of Bitcoin. eMule has been around for more than 25 years and has not been able to close down, why?

Any layer that is applied to Bitcoin to gain privacy and be able to resist state censorship will have to be.

- Its creators must be anonymous.

All centralized and federated solutions will be closed and if their creators are known, they will be jailed unless it is a honeypot. In the same way for decentralized solutions, if their creators are not anonymous, they will also be imprisoned.

You have already seen with Samourai that for the USA there are no jurisdictions, wherever you are from you will be arrested, so both Liquid, as Cashu, as Fedimint are temporary solutions that will end up closed in one way or another.

If you can use them to your benefit then use them, but be aware, I hope that now you understand my defense of Joinmarket against other alternatives and my hope with Joinstr.

Samourai could have used block filters by default for user to fetch their balance info in a private manner.

Now the feds potentially have all the xpubs of user that didn’t configure their own Dojo nodes.

We implore all wallets to look into providing block filters for their users and to be mindful of how the data they collect - or pass to third parties - could be used against their users.
