I spent the day 'wedge inoculating' a bunch of oaks that Helene brought down. Here in the Piedmont area of SC, the wind was up to 70mph. Our oaks are not used to those winds & it brought down the largest of them. I'd say at least 30% of all oaks over 100yrs old were pulled out of the ground. Most of the small trees were fine.
This'll be a keystone event for the ecology around here, whole acres of formerly hardwood-covered skies are now completely clear, 10ish% sun to 50-100% sun, overnight.
Anyway, I'm going to try & turn it into an opportunity by inoculating the bones of these old guys with oyster mushrooms. Some trees were over 3ft in diameter, I could be picking mushrooms off the trunks for 30 years.

Funny you ask that. She water bath canned it just to seal it but we weren’t sure if it would keep that way. I thought you’d have to at least pressure can it since it’s not acidic or salty.
