That isn’t how humans normally handle new technology. Normally, humans innovate more-or-less freely. New technologies create new problems. Humans cope with or mitigate those problems. Rarely are the problems solved unless the technology is supplanted. Innovation continues.

I don’t believe this. I think it’s possible to sign treaties and set up independent monitoring to stave the worst of it. Maybe not everything, but at least have some form of cooperation. We did it with nukes and can try with AI. Better than sitting on our hands doing nothing.

For me the key is when AI replaces the human for decision making. That is the dehumanizing part.

I’m not sure I’d be able to tell, honestly. My biggest fear is that we humans are so easily swayed and manipulated. All of us. It’s in our nature. And the AI will just get better and better at manipulating us, because we will inadvertently train it to do so. Simple advertising works on us even when it’s blatant. Keep seeing a coke enough times; keep hearing that crack of a can, that sizzle as it’s poored over tinkleing ice. Yeah, YOU are deciding to have a come right now. Uh, huh.

AI will be 100x more potent and subtle. Then 1000x.

There’s no upside to being passive on AI concerns. If we get it wrong that could spell the end of us.

Being overly cautious and thinking about the worst is good. If we’re wrong, and it turns out harmless, no harm done in the process.

We have no choice because we can not control what each nation state or individual, for that matter, will continue to do in regards to AI development.

Following the same principe, no I wouldn’t. However, it’s going to be difficult to track this.

By working for an AI I mean executing on a plan created exclusively by an AI.

If my boss uses ChatGPT to learn the steps to create an strategy and then asks me to execute on said strategy, I wouldn’t consider that working for an AI or for a person that works for an AI.

As your human boss relies more and more on AI to make decisions, write policy, emails, reviews, recommendations, etc. what would be your cutoff for not working for them anymore?
