Do people encrypt books— keeping the content secret until the key unlocks it?! Like Morse Code.
☺️ Great question.
One of the reasons I ask questions is to explore in an informal way.
Any ideas?
Using encrypted notes to start a book club. Many books are banned or
forbidden to people depending on where they find themselves reading in this world. Can you imagine the freedom to help people read together in a safe space?! ❤️
I already have a copy of Peter Sis translation of *The Conference of Birds* — I want to read another translation!
“I’m a huge fan of his translations of Persian masterpieces. However, in this case, I felt it was time for a new and modern translation of The Conference of the Birds. I’m not a scholar. I’m a poet. Therefore, I translated, or rather recreated, The Conference of the Birds as a poet.” ~ Sholeh Wolpé

Who do you enjoy reading?!
This is a great well known book I read years ago: https://www.amazon.com/Reading-Lolita-Tehran-Memoir-Books/dp/0812979303
I was thinking of it recently during a playful convo with nostr:npub1tsgw6pncspg4d5u778hk63s3pls70evs4czfsmx0fzap9xwt203qtkhtk4 about “encrypted book clubs”

“Sholeh Wolpé: I translate from Persian. Iran has a long and rich literary tradition. Poetry, which until the mid- to late-twentieth century was always written in verse, has always occupied an important place in the lives of kings, scholars, and regular people alike.”
I can’t wait for the new translation.”
“Each of these translations — along with dozens more — suggests a different understanding of the central themes of courage, marriage, fate and death.” ~Emily Wilson
🤣 — you are a lucky man. Your wife gave you a gift— taking the time to teach something helps you understand it in a deeper way.
Snow wasn’t enough to save her sister— education might have. Love this movie. https://youtu.be/Ny9jTvDLGQI
technology changes but human behavior is another story.
When I was on Mastodon, someone made a joke about dating someone who also ran “an email server” — we all knew why they made the joke.
Is it strange I still have my first “hotmail” account operating? Call me sentimental.
Luckily, I have help from her neighbor. I wonder if the air quality impacts the plants. Pittsburgh is hazy today — very unhealthy air. It’s eerie— https://nostrcheck.me/media/public/nostrcheck.me_2586593364097532651688034563.webp
I confess to searching through my photos to find my purple outfits for profile pics 💜☺️
“Roy’s subject and obsession is, throughout, power: who has it (and why), how it is used (and abused), the ways in which those with little power turn on those with less—and, importantly, how to find beauty and joy amid these struggles. The God of Small Things is a novel focused on one family, while The Ministry of Utmost Happiness has a larger scale, but in the questions they ask and the themes they explore, both novels are as “political” as any of her essays. Her essays, in turn, are as powerfully and lovingly written as her fiction, with the same suspicion of purity, perfection, and simple stories.” https://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/7814/the-art-of-fiction-no-249-arundhati-roy

My German Grandfather used to tell me he rolled around in poison ivy to avoid going to Catholic Primary School. If this were true, why would a little boy submit himself to soft skin torture to avoid an education?
Later in life, he found a Baptist Church with a wonderful preacher. When we visited my grandparents on the weekends, my mom would make sure we attended Catholic Mass & then we would get a taste of a protestant church service.
I wasn’t valedictorian of my Catholic High School, but I was awarded the “Religion Award” my senior year.
I also worked in my church’s rectory throughout high school. Another type of “education.”
Lessons learned.
