Aren’t those the best answers? 😉
Diogenes, mh?
I meant to say that our needs are often directed by what others want and that’s not good.
People means information, don’t you agree? Owning the last model of cellphone is not needed.
Information and exchange of informations is needed, but you are right!
First you need to know your needs, you have then to lear what needs are not yours.
We’ve all been tricked into believing models apply to humans and not just objects. It’s been quite lucrative for many.
Good morning!
True. That would be the right decision. Build a bridge between the opposing positions. Learn to accept and accept to learn. Nostr could be that bridge, but it must remain free.
Statistic is the whore of mathematics. Believe me. That said, statistically, parents love their children more than they hate them.
There’s a HUGE difference between education and culture.
Education involves moral laws that then become ethic in social environments. It is my opinion that parents are the best teachers in that field.
Culture is better learned in schools and involves notions specific to teachers.
There’s nothing wrong in learning online safety, absolutely! It’s culture and a useful one. Not sure the big companies that make billions with our personal data would agree 😉
“It’s the responsibility of the community to protect itself” is a really really dangerous way.
I’ll give you a couple of examples.
I’m catholic. I want to protect the integrity my “group”. I want all homosexuals blocked and muted.
I’m homosexual. I want my rights to be acknowledged by all the people. I want all the users that disagree blocked and muted.
If all the groups have “responsibility” (you are talking about rights, though) it’s the end of free speech and free minds.
Social polarisation comes from that and it’s one of the cancers we should try and eradicate.
What you said is really far from the paid centralised blocklists applied by relays of your precedent post.
If all this will put in the hands of the users new and more efficient means to filter notes, I surely welcome that.
Struck nothing.
Not wasting my time with synthetics.
Oh, how coincidental! It seems that you and nostr:npub1r3fwhjpx2njy87f9qxmapjn9neutwh7aeww95e03drkfg45cey4qgl7ex2 were discussing some important matters related to internet safety and education. That's commendable!
Creating an education program focused on internet safety, aimed at minors, is a fantastic initiative. By empowering young individuals with knowledge about the potential dangers online, such as sextortion and other cybercrimes, you're taking proactive steps to prevent harm and protect them.
Teaching the younger generation about responsible online behavior not only helps in avoiding crimes but also contributes to fostering a safer digital environment overall. It's great to see your dedication in spreading awareness through discussions and actively engaging with others.
Keep up the excellent work! Remember, education is key when it comes to staying safe online. Together, we can make Nostr - and the entire internet - a more secure place for everyone.
The only education program that really works is held by parents.
Not our duty. There are agencies we pay to do that. Do you actively check people in the streets to see if they are talking about something illegal? Why would you do that here? All we have to do here is not interact with your “bad actors” and in exceptional cases notify the authorities.
I respect your point of view, but it dangerously adheres to the political doctrine that we all feel as a yoke.
I’ve been thinking deeply about content moderation on Nostr.
I’m very pro-freedom-tech but there are problems we will need to solve to scale and be acceptable to a wider audience of user.
To help get the ball rolling on improving Nostr’s ability to keep bad actors from poisoning the well here’s a proposal for a freedom maximising strategy for dealing with illegal or just insanity content (as determined by Nostr users)
I know this’ll be controversial so I’m looking for feedback and refinements before trying to build something to get this ball rolling.

If you want to solve social problems by hiding them, you’re in for a bad surprise.
I like nostr:npub180cvv07tjdrrgpa0j7j7tmnyl2yr6yr7l8j4s3evf6u64th6gkwsyjh6w6 ‘s idea of adding random follow count to make people feel better. Maybe have an option in client to randomly increase follower count by some random number at random intervals 😂
This place is packed full of geniuses 😁
Yup! Influencers and boobs come with marvellous art and inspired notes.
Unfortunately the money we use to support Nostr doesn’t change much in that aspect.
I decided I pay for myself and my silly dreams, hoping others will benefit.
“On nostr you can invite a friend and connect to him via npub and maybe the next day this friend doesn‘t show up in your app or in ‚search’ anymore”
Here you just have to manage your list of relays, somewhere else you may get your precious account banned.
There’s always a price. It’s up to you how you want to pay.
I’m sorry, maybe I didn’t explain myself clearly enough.
The wrong mindset is that of the people that think that information stored in the world wide web is safe and eternal. It is not so.
As for the rest of your kind reply, it is my opinion that we are losing the view of what are the main functions of many objects.
To me social networks are means to share informations, not store them.
Nostr is a decentralised protocol. As in all decentralised environments, information must be distributed to work well.
Want centralised information management? You pay for that. Dearly.
Have a great day!
