nostr:npub1zjthsaedrenj2fmev4vlly37v84egwfu3edpqp3quan0878pk7psptdj2u Is it not more than a little disrespectful to ignore and denigrate people’s religious motives when those motives lead them to do admirable acts? On my part, dogmatism of any sort is extremely off-putting, and I say that about both religious dogmatism, an anti-religious dogmatism, which strike me as mirror images of each other.

nostr:npub1hqjt378t4hcf2pu5lt8pjtmaazpm5e97mtqefncvryu9ym6zvvzqjajea3 Sorry, I shouldn’t have used an acronym. Cooperative Baptist fellowship broke away from the SBC after SBC made its rightward turn. You might find David Gushee’s book about leaving evangelicalism interesting to read, because it comments on that history, and his experience with both SPC and CBF. Though CBF presents itself as a liberal alternative to SBC, Gushee found it in many ways less than optimal — and I agree with his assessment.

nostr:npub1hqjt378t4hcf2pu5lt8pjtmaazpm5e97mtqefncvryu9ym6zvvzqjajea3 Sounds like my journey in a lot of ways. My uncle who taught at Baylor and his wife, both of whom spent their careers teaching in SBC schools, were both dismayed by the right-wing turn of the SBC. Another uncle (by marriage) was descended from multiple generations of Baptist missionary-preachers, and left the SBC for the CBF after the SBC took its rightward turn. His father had been SBC president in Arkansas.

"Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney – who is presiding over the grand jury in the Trump election subversion case – has reviewed and signed the grand jury’s finding.

He then returned the paperwork to an official from the clerk’s office, who then left the courtroom.

Previously, the clerk’s office official, a prosecutor, and a bailiff brought the paperwork into McBurney’s courtroom."

nostr:npub1hqjt378t4hcf2pu5lt8pjtmaazpm5e97mtqefncvryu9ym6zvvzqjajea3 I'm sorry. Schools can make or break people — and can break our hearts, for sure. The hard-right turn the SBC took decades back has really had destructive effects on the educational institutions affiliated with it.

nostr:npub1p0ycaundq55puyhhtqrpxgfrrqw8nfxzpuvxw68ffu95amfsxakq6yrz7w I don't know, either — except to stand together and push back as hard as we can.

nostr:npub1zjthsaedrenj2fmev4vlly37v84egwfu3edpqp3quan0878pk7psptdj2u I disagree. I see religion as a potent force for both good and evil in the world today and throughout history. I was just today reviewing Pierre Sauvage's testimony to the courage, founded in religious conviction, of the people of Chambon-sur-Lignon who sheltered and saved his family and several thousands of other Jews during the Nazi period. His "Weapons of the Spirit" tells that story and is clear on the religious convictions that motivated these heroic folks.

LITERALLY ANYONE ELSE with these kinds of serious felony charges against them would be sitting in jail with no bail. (Well, actually anyone else would have already been tried, convicted, and incarcerated). Add to that the fact that he's clearly attempting to intimidate the judge by spurring his kkklan to violent acts, and it seems like throwing his fat orange caboose in jail is a no-brainer. He continues to endanger every single American and our justice system is letting him.
