Smart dad. Both of my older children have their conceal carry and have taken defensive handgun courses as well as tactical firearms training.

Yes!! Not letting kids take risks and fail has been a major mistake in parenting for the past 20 years imho. You’re going to be great parents.

They actually called my daughter to come pick them up and she told them they needed to call me.

Yea I’m glad they did.

Always give kids a chance to face their own problems. It teaches accountability and resilience.

Congrats on the impending bundle of joy! My parenting tip is to be open to advice from other parents (you are) and open to the fact that the way you were patented may not work for your children.

Thanks, it’s the hardest job I have ever had and it’s not even close.

Thanks Roya, the best you can do is try.

What I have found interesting over the years with my kids’ friends is that they aren’t looking for parents to be cool or their best friends. In fact, even though they think those parents, they also make fun of them. I have found most teens just want an adult who listens and provides guidance when they need it.

Two of my daughter’s friends called me at 2am saying they had done something stupid, were scared, were stuck on the other side of the island and there were no Ubers. They had been talking to boys on Snapchat for weeks and decided to sneak out of the house and meet them. After all was said and done, the boys dumped them off at a 7-11. I picked them up, made sure they were ok and have given them until Sunday to tell their parents.

Talk to your kids about making good decisions!! I can’t sleep thinking of all the ways this could have ended so much worse.
