On my other social media I'm eganged with communities like Swifties, Booktok, feminism, animal rights, local Texas groups, pop culture... mainstream stuff, largely.
Ideally as the platfrom grows we'll have more and more users interested in a variety of topics. but, as it is, Nostr can't replace my mainstream social media diet bc these are not communities here posting on these topics (to any meanful degree).
That being said, I think at first it makes sense for us to target disenfranchised subgroups of larger more mainstream communities. This is how the Fediverse found so much success. I think @Ditto will be great bc it's specifically built around this concept.
Sadly I think most social media users do not care about freedom until the lack of it effects them personally. User retention will be primarily about content and experience rather than freedom. Although I certainly hope we can onboard new users to a more freedom-focused mindset.
Id love to hear from others what communities they think would make good targets for moving to Nostr!
ohh thanks! I'm always thinking about starting up again 😁
beautiful!! ❤️
As a multi-passionate generalist with skills and interests ranging from writing to software and heavily involved in activism, I never quite know how to market myself. I like working on something different every day, and that means I have a huge range of experience but not one single "title" that can easily be applied to my role.
Well, here's my latest attempt at a website to encapsulate 'me.' Built in Next.Js with Tailwind. Still a work in progress, like the rest of me. 💜 🧡
1) Content creators on topics besides bitcoin
2) Communities where people can find like-minded accounts to follow and form genuine connections
3) Lower barrier of entry
did you see Drake's latest response he just dropped?? it's weak 😬
just hangin around 🌱 #grownostr #nativeplants #texas

I need Noshole to come back and drop a "I'm looking for a man with Bitcoin" edit ASAP
Awesome!! 💜 🧡
GM Nostr! here's some happy little pumpkin plants 🌱 #grownostr

That mostly works, but it misses the opportunity for community growth on Nostr and, as we've seen, results in low user retention when they fail to find meaningful connections. Every other social media platform that has succeeded has done so because of the communities people find and build. This is what keeps users coming back day after day, and we need that if we want to grow to mainstream adoption. Although, I understand some people prefer stagnation when they are comfortable.
Yes!! this is exactly what Ditto is working on:
