I agree--relays, how to find / add them, how to assess / evaluate their effectiveness, etc.

I am posting this from Amethyst on GrapheneOS right now. Works great. I get updates from Obtainium. There's a build without Google services but it still shows notifications if you want them.

Hmmm...thanks...I'll look into it. Trying out Primal for the time being (not exactly the same as Primal desktop, but getting use to it).

Thanks again--will give Amethyst a try. Is the version on F-droid the one without Google services?

Fiatjaf reminds me of the CEOs of some startups I've luckily never worked at.

They're in charge because the original idea was theirs and not because they're good at managing an enterprise or have some irreplaceable competence.

So, they eventually run everything into the wall.

Virtually every startup reaches a stage where the founders exceed their abilities and knowledge and need help.

The startups that succeed are those where the founders recognize their own personal limitations, and seek that help.

Unfortunately in many (most?) cases that never occurs....

I've thought about this also--HODL numbers get reset (don't they?) every time someone consolidates UTXOs, and consequently doesn't that distort the true HODL percentages?

(Or is there something I'm missing?)

Am I the only idiot who can't use Nostr on a desktop? On mobile Amethyst works well, but on a desktop, I just can't seem to figure it out.

I use Primal on desktop - not perfect (what is?) but pretty good...

I am still not a fan of the Nostr experience but I am sticking with it because we fucking need it.

Anyone with a gig - writers, photographers, artists - can potentially benefit from #Nostr. But aren’t Cash App, Venmo, and Zelle much easier to setup and use? Why would someone get into #Bitcoin or the hassle of key pairs and wallets?

I also just checked and I have 0 Google services installed and used fdroid to install amethyst - so I guess I don't get what you refer to as "Google permissions" cause it doesn't have any. Unless you're speaking of backend reliance in which case I have no clue on.

Yes, it's the backend support--so (for example) if you go to Aurora and search for "nostr" you'll see the clients - and many (most?) of them say "requires GSF" (Google Services Framework).

Now some apps may say they require GSF but run fine without. For others, no so...

And while you can install Google services on Graphene in a sandbox I'd prefer not to...and (of course) there are other permissions as well.

So--looking for recommendations 😃 (i.e. "stand on the shoulders of others" as it were)

What do you all think of BitVM?

The following are some of the limitations of BitVM that the team is still working to overcome:

- In its current state, BitVM is only a two-person model. This limitation means it cannot support large-scale decentralized applications with multiple transacting parties.

- On-chain verification could still clog up Bitcoin's blockchain.

- Off-chain computations will likely involve huge amounts of data.

Have to disagree--if there's one single application I couldn't give up it'd be spreadsheets (and Excel in particular given the integrations with PowerQuery...but if pressed I could live with open source alternatives)
