Climate Action Tracker #Australia đŚđş assessment 11 June 2025.
We are rated âinsufficientâ, still expanding #fossilfuels, reliant on LULUCF accounting for emission reduction, two thirds of #SafeguardMechanism reduction is based on offsets .
Japan does not need Australian gas. They are reselling it and subsidising new gas infrastructure in Asia. Australiaâs #FutureGasStrategy is #FossilFuel marketing. Shameful policy in #Auspol ignoring the science & #ClimateCrisis https://reneweconomy.com.au/japan-does-not-need-australian-gas-to-keep-the-lights-on-in-tokyo/

Public Transport Victoria are a party pooper. Encourages car use and transport emissions. Poor form, unjust and inequitable on those who rely on #publictransport

100% agree. I have been reading/ taking action since 2004 when I realised the politicians essentially weren't listening/acting too slow and impacts were starting to escalate. I attended COP21 in Paris in 2015 as an NGO observer and when I came back to Australia never went back to paid work, but have worked full time since then as full time climate activist (on a superannuation pension). I am active in local lobbying of 3 levels of government here, as well as internationally. No time for climate grief or despair, too busy making change (I have had some successes particularly with my local council).
I Have a Meeting with my State MP later today.
I keep a #ClimateDiary blog of articles from 2003 here:
âI say despair is a luxury we canât afford any longer,â Canadian David Suzuki says when asked how he remains positive. âIf you care at all about your children or grandchildren, then it seems to me you have no choice but to try. My hope is that trying shows that we believe there is a different possibility â that we can make a difference." - David Suzuki interview by Adam Morton in âDespair is a luxury we canât affordâ: David Suzuki on fighting for action on the #ClimateCrisis.
Comment in Nature on latest China Floods, causes, mitigation:
* vulnerability to #Floods increased due to rapid development, proliferation of impermeable surfaces.
* #urbanization has also wiped out many of Beijingâs #wetlands which act as a sponge
* drainage systems in Beijing have failed to keep pace with rapid development.
On top of this you have a warmer atmosphere due to #ClimateChange allowing for increased water carrying capacity for more intense rainfall like the record dumping of 745mm of rain on the Beijing over 5 days â 4 x the cityâs average August rainfall.
China so far addressing this through 'Sponge' cities, but at the moment this is based on average rainfall event and not extreme events.

Current (1 Aug) #SST anomaly for #GreatBarrierReef doesnât bode well for summer. According to Prof Terry Hughes of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Coral Reef Studies, 50% decline of #GBR is already widespread before the current event.
Meanwhile Australia keeps approving new gas and coal #FossilFuels driving reef Extinction
