Fountain 1.2 is live on iOS and Android 🚀

This massive update brings significant design and UX improvements across the app along with a new episode summaries features. Here's what's new:

Library Design Update

We've made it much easier to navigate between podcasts and music in your library with the addition of the new content-type filters. The Recently Played view allows you to quickly jump back into what you were listening to before and the design of the content cards have been refreshed too.

Content Pages Design Update

All of the different content pages have undergone an extensive redesign, including shows, episodes, artists, albums, tracks, clips and playlists. We’ve replaced the tab layout with scrollable pages, improved the formatting of show notes and revamped features like chapters and transcripts.

Episode Summaries

Every episode page now has a Summary button above the show notes. Simply pay 500 sats to unlock a summary, or upgrade to Fountain Premium for $2.99/month to enjoy unlimited summaries. Summaries and transcripts now come as a bundle, and they’re now faster, cheaper, and more accurate than ever before.

Playback Improvements

We’ve completely rebuilt our audio engine from the ground up. Playback is now more robust and reliable — especially for music. Tracks now play instantly when tapped, and if you're playing an album, or playlist, you can now skip next and previous seamlessly. We've also made some design updates to the player for easier access show notes, comments, transcripts and chapters, and we added a smart resume feature for podcasts.

We would love to hear how you’re finding Fountain 1.2. Please submit your thoughts and feedback via the main menu in the app and we will take it on board as we continue to improve the app.

Thanks for this great app! It took a mention on Tom Woods for me to find it, but I'm glad I did.

I created a handful of accounts trying to get my npub linked to my e-mail address… Is there a way to consolidate accounts or delete/relink so my e-mail address and npub are linked to the same Fountain profile?

First of all you should know there are certain regulations around this. Trucking is a highly regulated industry. In terms of government regulation, it honestly is one of the less insanely regulated industries though in my opinion. However the regulations do keep it stuck way in the past.

I don't know that the current regulations would prevent this from being done but there are regulations to be aware of in the US. I don't know but many rules around trucking are very similar in the US and Canada.

I'm not an owner operator so I've never worked the load boards or worked with a brokerage as an owner operator contracting freight.

Basically, in my understanding, as a contractor/driver, you will sign on to a load board and see dates, origins, destinations, freight classification, weight, possibly a description, and some indication of type of equipment needed and possibly special instructions such as pickup hours, securement, equipment, or temperature instructions. I think usually there is a price and you can apply to get the load. Or you can make an offer. Brokers are famous for playing games putting the same load out multiple times to make sure they get it covered and then again to make sure they get it cheaper canceling the more expensive one.

Van and reefer loads are usually pretty straightforward and account for a large percentage of uncontracted freight. Open deck trailers can be more complex, oversize can be very complex.

Lots of owner operators work direct with brokers who have contracts to broker loads to drivers. They may also bear a certain amount of legal responsibility and responsibility for checking on the load and advising as to its status.

They are several major brokers and a lot of small ones.

Uber freight is a pretty big player in the industry now too.

Brokers charge a percentage of the load, and often provide very little by way of actual service, so there is a lot of money on the table.

Owner operators will tell you to never trust a broker, but if you do find one you like, to never let them go.

Wow, thank you for the response! Still thinking about how do this.

I'm just trying to understand what a load board system would need, and how it might be different from a generic job board or even an auction marketplace. Do you have an example of an existing system you use today?

At first glance, it looks like the public chat spec in NIP-28 could support the core flow of posting and bidding on almost anything.

There may need to be some definition around metadata names to help clients search for relevant job/load/auction channels.

#[1]: if you had an easy way to find potential loads, how close could you get with general purpose public chat room specific to an individual job/load/auction?
