Vicar’s Close, built over 600 years ago in Wells England, is the oldest residential street with original buildings intact in Europe. Labor was limited, dangerous and expensive, and materials had to be locally sourced and were finite. And still, we built gorgeous structures such as this. 
Dresden, Germany. None of these buildings existed just 25 years ago.
But 80 years ago, they did. Until they were bombed to bits in WW2.

The Neue Elbbrücke Bridge in Hamburg, Germany. The original design was completed in 1887 and featured two Gothic gateways. Destroyed in 1959 to add an additional lane.
