Bitcoiner Rational optimist #AUStrich OpenSats Bitcoin Brisbane bitcoinbushbash@nostrplebs.com Honeybadger Noob Day Working on https://primal.net/EscapeHatch

Look forward to a conversation steel manning that

Lookin like a great weekend to:

- open and close channels

- tidy up those wallets you've got

- move bitcoin into cold storage

fuck around and find out with new stuff

Anyone else see the pattern here?

Bitcoin only isn’t just the product

It’s the funding too

Keep incentives aligned 🧔 nostr:note1cr9s9dvcqtnj9jj8aa04jas5kwtfr9pwkyrze84jdn9ttjvr46csggdkp4

Demographics are THE long-term indicator

Most of the west is in a population decline or at best, flat equilibrium. So population growth only comes in those places via immigration .. and the covid years quickly emphasised that.

In times of rising tension and uncertainty, birthrates fall .. go look back at birth rates in the periods leading up to world wars .. and conversely the boom in birthrates AFTER those events .. hello Boomers

The entire credit-based financial system however requires ongoing "growth". Cycles are normal .. which means so is contraction .. and that's what drives the synergy between underlying societal tension, declining birthrates and credit collapses

So sure - people should be able to travel and work freely - I'm damn sure I want to be able to and ain't nothing special or unique about me

Bwahaha .. never used it .. but my point still stands

If the objective is to provoke thought and curiosity about #bitcoin on any platform outside Nostr .. bloody well keep at it

happy dances inside a tiny echo chamber can quickly descend into another set of circle jerks

Yep, i too understand that’s what is SUPPOSED to happen .. but given the failure of two ā€œregulated custodiansā€ recently, and (GBTC)/Coinbase’s lack of transparency/inability to confirm GBTC’s alleged spot holdings .. kinda makes public verification more important .. and therefore whether funds are comingled so important

Coinbase hasn’t exhibited trustworthy behaviour imo šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Travis thought yields generation was a thing too, has paid a bunch of tuition fees, and looks like those will continue until critical thinking occurs and lessons are learned

Be aware.

"Arkham has identified 948,000 BTC on the chain, worth about 25 billion Coinbase BTC reserves, making Coinbase the largest identified BTC entity at the moment, with nearly 5% of the total existing Bitcoin, about the same as Satoshi Nakamoto. — link

(https://platform.arkhamintelligence.com/explorer/entity/coinbase)The majority of this should be client assets. This $25 billion BTC is made up of more than 36 million Coinbase BTC deposit with the largest cold wallet containing approximately 10,000 BTC. Based on recent financial data from Coinbase, Arkham believes there may be thousands of BTC yet to be marked."

Is there any distinction between coins attributed to Coinbase the exchange (if we collapse your coins are ours), vs Coinbase the ā€œregulated custodianā€ (lolz) where the assets legally remain owned by the depositing entity?

ā€œ.. the DMV created ..ā€

Bwahahaha you’re a funny fucker 🤣

Open standards -> Interoperability

On Lightning we’ve seen the necessary development of BOLT to ensure interoperability between āš”ļø implementations .. and push back from some groups seeking to create their own moats

Now with LSPs evolving, again we see the necessary and nascent building of equivalent standards for the same objective .. interoperability

Why is this SO important?

The expansion in reach and use of āš”ļø replies upon the interoperability because no one wants to give a flying fuck about which implementation they are running or that your peers or those you route through are running

Those groups that are pushing back against standards in āš”ļø and LSPs need to have a good hard look in the mirror and ask themselves what precisely they are there for

And those of us deploying and using āš”ļø need to push for the laggards to get their shit together nostr:note1mlnclhzf4c65lxqruk78mtmrg67va8seyll7kytv4v8henxtd48qwa3ae2

UK Parliament passes ā€œOnline Safety Billā€ emphasising the importance of:
