ordered a GALLON PAIL of Ascorbic Acid Powder ( Pure Synthetic Vitamin C - made in China goodness ! )

i originally bought ascorbic acid by the pound. then kilogram ( 2.2 lbs ). and now gallon ( 8 lbs ).

kilo lasted me about a year and a half. at the same rate this gallon should last 5 years, which is the shelf life of Ascorbic Acid.

it doesn't really go bad at 5 years it just loses potency overtime but it's still 95% or so potency at 5 years.

the pricing is something like:

$16 for pound ( $ 1.0 / ounce )

$22 for kilo ( $ 0.6 / ounce )

$35 for gallon ( $0.3 / ounce )

so there is good saving if you can actually use 8 lbs, but according to my calculations - i can.

i will give half of the 8 lbs away to friends and family and consume the remaining half at 1 gram per day rate over the course of 5 years.

the assholes kept begging me to share my ascorbic acid with them when i bought it by the kilo and i did but reluctantly. now i will be able to give them as much as they want and still have enough left for myself.

when composing a post the preview pane automatically gets larger to fit the post, but the input text box does not, and this becomes nothing short of punishment when trying to edit long posts.

namely when looking over a long post to make improvements such as to eliminate redundancy if maybe i made the same point twice i'm forced to use the preview pane as it's the only one large enough to effectively do that kind of work ... but when i DO find something that requires editing i then have to try to remember where it was and look for it in the keyhole sized text box by scrolling it forever ...

it would be so much better if i could read over the entire post in the input text box and fix the mistakes directly where i find them ...

please make the input text box get larger automatically just as preview pane already does ...

other way to look at it is the input box is PRIMARY while preview is SECONDARY.

give the primary the respect it deserves !

so basically pasteurized orange juice loses a third of Vitamin C content versus fresh Oranges but still has plenty left ...

strawberry jam though ... loses most Vitamin C and what i previously didn't know is it continues to lose whatever is left overtime in storage ... there doesn't seem to be an agreement how much actually is there but i will go with worst case estimate of NONE. my actual bottle of Jam doesn't mention Vitamin C at all and i was unable to find a single label that showed any non-zero amount of Vitamin C even though some websites ( probably falsely ) claim that Strawberry Jam has significant Vitamin C.

so i will make an adjustment to my diet. going to stop buying Strawberry Jam and start eating fresh fruits again - Strawberries, Kiwis, Tangerines etc.

will continue drinking orange juice and using ascorbic acid unchanged.

by the way that strawberry jam doesn't just contain citric acid and sugar - it then also lists Corn Syrup TWICE and that's on top of the sugar. So it separately has added Sugar, Corn Syrup and High Fructose Corn Syrup. and all that for ZERO vitamin C. what a deal LOL.

i had checked my Orange Juice label in the past and that's why i assumed that everything will be fine and never checked the Strawberry Jam label. the lesson is clear - never assume. check or get rekt.

i knew that Vitamins are partially destroyed by heating but losing 1/3 in Juice vs Oranges was not an issue for me. Losing ALL OF IT and then having sugar added THREE TIMES is an issue ! ! !

how hard would it have been to check sooner ? laziness will kill me. i am not exaggerating or being dramatic.
