i now sit less than 4 feet away from my 75" 8K screen and think it isn't big enough.

my 55" 4K screen now feels like a laptop screen to me.

with the 75" 8K and sitting so close sometimes i slide my chair across from left to right to see different parts of the screen. after all it's basically SIXTEEN 18" Full HD screens stitched together, so why should i treat it as a TV when it's really a small wall plastered with laptop screens. you sit about 2 feet away from your laptop screen and i sit about 3-4 feet away from my "TV"

going back to 55" 4K feels so wrong now. borderline unusable.

i mean it's fine for composing Notes like this one, but i have been spending a lot of time lately on Google Maps looking for an area to move to and this old PC with GTX 1060 3GB VRAM and 4K screen just simply doesn't hold a candle to RTX 4080 16GB VRAM and 8K screen. the old computer feels like i'm looking through a key hole compared to the newer one where the bird's eye view of 3D map actually looks like a bird's eye view.

in Google Maps there are panes on the left of the screen that cut in too much into the field of view on a smaller / lower res screen. on a 75" 8K these side panels take up maybe the left foot and a half of the screen so i simply slide my chair over to the right a bit and i'm good.

8K screens are becoming affordable now but sadly to get full benefit of 8K you will want a larger screen. you can get a good price for a last year model 65" 8K Samsung but to be honest with you 65" is not really big enough, even if you only use it as PC monitor and not as a big-screen TV.

i mean 65" 8K would be day and night difference over anything you're using now but that's like saying a Mid girl would be a huge upgrade over your hand that you're using now, because any screen that isn't 8K is basically your hand.

however if budget allows you should go to 75" and if possible 85" ...

with a 85" you will also be able to use it to watch movies from the couch, which can help offset the cost by not needing to have a separate TV assuming your home layout allows for such use.

a 85" 8K is still much cheaper than 98" 4K and is a far more versatile screen because it can work both as PC monitor and TV.

basically i wouldn't consider any screen that isn't 8K and the sizes you want are 65", 75" or 85" ... with an entry level 65" running about $1,800 ( Samsung QN800B ) and high-end 85" running $7,000 ( Sony Z9K ) ... anywhere in that range you're getting good price / performance ratio.

anything lower res than 8K is a joke and anything over 85" the price starts to parabolic ...
