Once in a lifetime shot

Jerry Glover shows a perennial wheatgrass plant's long roots which grow deeper than annual plants' roots. Using perennials, crops that can be harvested more than once without replanting, may be the key for feeding more people while conserving farmland soil.

"Perennial crops can be grown for more than two years alone or alongside annuals, and they can radically improve soil health and support a healthier community of bacteria and fungi underground.

Annuals have to develop roots every year, which means their growing season is much shorter. Perennial roots go deep β€” some as deep as 10 feet β€” and they will sustain the plant for many years. Way down there, the roots can capture more groundwater. Those deep, better-established roots also help cycle nutrients in the soil and make them more available to plants".

The otherworldly rainbow eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) graces the rainforests of the Philippines, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea with its striking beauty. Growing up to 246 feet tall, this tree's bark sheds in strips, revealing a vibrant tapestry of green, red, orange, gray, and purple. As the only eucalyptus species in Northern Hemisphere rainforests, it thrives from sea level to 5,906 feet, painting the lush landscape with its ever-changing hues.

"Do you know that...? - Old bees don't return to the hive in the evening? They spend the night on flowers, and if they have the chance to see another sunrise, they resume their activity by bringing pollen or nectar to the colony. They do this sensing that the end is near. No bee waits to die in the hive so as not to burden the others. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees have cold blood like all insects, yet at the colony level, they are a warm mega-organism. 🐝🐝🐝 - There are bees that bring pollen and bees that bring nectar, never will a pollen-collecting bee change its task to bring nectar and vice versa. 🐝🐝🐝 - Although dandelions are yellow, their pollen collected by bees turns orange in the mixing urn with nectar. 🐝🐝🐝 - The record for keeping a bee colony alive during winter was 356 days without them going out for cleansing flights. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees can be useful to humans even after they have died, as they are used in the form of poultices to treat joint pain. 🐝🐝🐝 - Bees never sleep. Thank you, little bees!!! 🐝❀

Redhead Festival is a weekend-long festival held every year during the first weekend of September, where redheads from all over the world flock to the small town of Breda, in the Netherlands for Roodharigendag, Redhead Days International Festival.

This gathering was initiated by painter Bart Rouwenhorst, who was inspired by artists who famously painted red-haired women such as Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Gustav Klimt.

While on vacation with my family on a trip out to the Black Hills I was able to take a night off and head over to the Badlands National Park. I was very impressed with how dark the skies were there. The park has a lot of different overlooks which provide different views of the area at each one. Here's one shot I got at the Burns Basin Overlook with my 50mm lens.

Castellfollit de la Roca is a unique village in Spain situated atop a basalt crag that is over 50 meters (160 feet) high and nearly a kilometer long. This geological formation gives the village a spectacular setting, perched dramatically on the edge of the cliff. The crag itself is a result of volcanic activity, forming part of the Garrotxa volcanic zone in Catalonia, Spain. Castellfollit de la Roca is not only notable for its stunning natural surroundings but also for its historical and cultural significance, offering visitors a glimpse into both geological history and traditional Catalan life.

β‰οΈπŸ€― DID YOU KNOW that Lake Hillier, located on Middle Island in Western Australia, is renowned for its bright pink hue?

This distinctive color results from the presence of microorganisms such as the micro-algae Dunaliella salina and halophilic bacteria. Unlike other colored lakes, the water of Lake Hillier retains its pink color even when collected in a container. This fascinating natural phenomenon attracts many visitors and researchers eager to understand and admire this natural wonder. Surrounded by dense vegetation and the blue ocean, the striking contrast of this pink lake makes it a remarkable visual spectacle. They say it’s safe to swim in, but u have to get permission from the Western Australia Department of Conservation.

Another name for this lake is β€œBubblegum Lake”… 🩷🩷🩷
