Fantastic presentation, thanks Matt. There is one thing that didn't quite fit my understanding and although not terribly important, thought I'd point it out. Ghaddafi did not state he was going to sell Libyan oil outside of dollars as far as I remember. The actual invasion and destruction of the country took place just before a summit where he was going to launch a planned african gold dinar. The goal was to try to have a sound monetary basis to try to lift the entire maghreb and I think sahel out of poverty. I have still never been able to find confirmation anywhere on exactly who stole the 220 tons of gold or where it is now but I can't imagine the americans allowed the french to take it!
It can't really function as a store of value unless it can be exchanged for other things of value...

Been watching more talks on bitcoin as a store of value vs means of exchange. I think I agree with many comments that for bitcoin to win, it needs to be both. If just a store of value, it loses part of it's freedom tech properties. I will continue to stack from fiat and start the process of yearly wallet separation. I stack 2024 bitcoin, I spend 2018 bitcoin for -90% ish inflation. That seems to cover all cases.

I work in the oilfield and have been hearing same question of when itās going to run out for over 20 years now. Nobody seems to like the answer, as if itās blasphemy to suggest we will just find more and price according to supply and demand. That quote resonated more with me than anything else in his books.
