I'm curious about #umbrel and the relay setup.

Why does everyone setup tailscale to access it over the internet instead of configuring the relay to only accept connections from particular npub's?

Is it not that configurable when deployed on Umbrel?

As far as I know, relays don't by default perform inter-relays of notes. You post to multiple relays and anyone connected to them sees your notes.

I think there might be some relays which do aggregate message from multiple relays and present a unified feed though. #[4] will likely know as I'm sure nostrgram is/will do this.

What do you mean by maintain follower count? That it is consistent across multiple clients?

Another option is if relays charge a really low number of sats to post.

Are the notes you make really important to keep or a nice to have? If important, perhaps a very low powered private relay that you add to your list would suffice? Or something like https://nostrgraph.net/archive

I'm enjoying the evolution of the platform at the moment but I think we need to think differently as it's our data running on volunteers systems rather than big corp. Sooner or later we're going to have to pay a little. This will be the hard part to swallow after so many years of 'free' things.
