Dad. Husband. Math teacher. Runner. Amateur writer. Fisherman. Mediocre guitar player and volleyball player. We need a new cultural enlightenment. I want to be a part of it.

You’re bringing together Lyn Alden and Jeff Snider?!?! 😱 #bitcoin nostr:note1d42c6and07zj5gnlsn03tupyf6g9hpu7cc54tuq4um7z54xvs35qevkzph

Jeff, if I still have your attention, may I humbly ask a question?

Let's suppose that you're correct and technology frees people. Bitcoin wins the day, deflation, etc. What do people do if they don't have to work?

Or, a better question might be, if we have nothing to push against will we atrophy as people?

If we don't tear each other apart on the way there, I just envision a modern Brave New World where people are constantly getting high on whatever technology provided Soma exists at the time (we have this in one form in Tiktok) because we will struggle to find meaning. I struggle to imagine a future where we all work 10 hours a week and play ultimate frisbee and do yoga.

Put simply, I worry a lot about exponential nihilism.

Yesterday I asked my 5 year old son what he wanted to be when he grew up. I realized immediately after asking that whatever he said might not be a job in 15 years. In fact, it probably won't be. Then I thought about what society will look like in 15 years on the trajectory that we're on - it doesn't look good.

A question that, I assume, used to be fun for parents to ask their kids just made me anxious and sad. I just want my kids to have a good life - better than mine. And I don't see many paths forward where we don't completely fuck up civilization in the medium to long term. Maybe even the short term.

AI has me thinking about this a lot lately, but that's just one of the risks that we face.

I'm sympathetic to the Pinkeresque argument that "never has it been better for people than it is right now." Fine. But the number of "multiply by zero" risks seems to be increasing. Doesn't matter how big the number is if you multiply it by zero.

This article makes a couple very important points. (If only people with the levers of power would pay attention.)

As always, an insightful conversation with #[0] on the future, technology, deflation, economics, and a system built on theft. #bitcoin

Sure thing. I can’t understand it either. Especially because if someone doesn’t want to use it, they don’t have to. They can continue using bitcoin as they do today.

This interview with Paul is really informative if podcasts are your thing.

Yes, I think long term we definitely want this! Right now the relays are in the backseat but I'm hoping that changes.

It’s a great idea for clients to provide people follow when they first sign up. However, the devs would be wise to check how many of the suggested follows have laser eyes and green burning skulls for their profile images. There’s a good chance that those who aren’t #Bitcoin fanatics or aren’t interested in bitcoin at all will think #nostr is a club for bitcoiners only — and leave.

It’s much more than that and I think we want adoption from all different types of people (sooner rather than later).

I’m convinced that breakfast is not the most important meal of the day. I’m up at 5:00 and don’t eat until between 10:00 and 11:00 most days and my mind is clearest during that time. (I do drink one cup of coffee after I get up.)

When you miss a day of school as a teacher you pay for it for about a week.
