Third one of my #oxford #linocutprint serie! I went a it crazy experimenting with texture. The view of the Radcliffe camera is from a photo I took from the balcony of the tower of St. Mary

Second one of my #linocut Oxford serie (...and second linocut I've ever done). Also this one inspired by one of my previous watercolors

I only recently dabbled into #linocutprint. This is the very first print I made all by myself, inspired from one of my watercolor works.

According to the little sign attached to its blue little fence, this house is called “the museum lodge”. It is in fact located a bit up the street from the Natural History Museum, but I do not know if or how it is linked to it. Anyway, it is a peculiar old-looking house, and I like its roof.

I know you are just musing. But it sparked my curiosity. If I found the right place it has a pretty long history:
The Villa was born around 1300 as a control outpost, a thesis also confirmed by its position. At the beginning of the fifteenth century it was used by the Marquis of Saluzzo as a hunting lodge, later it was transformed into a noble residence by the Marquis Ludovico II. More here:

Very lovely work!
This might be a stupid question, but do you paint first and then add the ink drawing, or vice versa?
No, no that is another place! Confusingly it is also called Villa Belvedere, but nobody calls it like that. 😅

Since I was a child I knew the uppermost part of Via Griselda, just before the sharp turn that goes through a tunnel, is called “Belvedere.” I never questioned the reason, as it is quite self-explanatory: one side of the road features a balcony overlooking the western part of Saluzzo and offers a broad panoramic view of the Alps and the Po River plain. That was until I noticed, shockingly recently due to my aimless wandering in the old town, at the very top of the building overlooking the view, an old and faded wall inscription in large letters that says “BELVEDERE”. This made me curious: Is Belvedere an eponym? Was there, a century ago, a hotel or some other kind of commercial establishment called “Belvedere” (clearly named after the view) that gave the place its name? Or was it the other way around? Did they paint the word “Belvedere” on the building because it stands at the top of a place already called that? Who knows… In any case, neither the panoramic view nor the building with the inscription is visible here in my drawing.

Among all colleges, Trinity is the one I know better, because of friends. I have been lucky to be invited to listen talks, attend formal dinners, and just simply for hanging out. This drawing is for my friend, a very popular guy, which name opens many door at Trinity college.

The Natural History Museum is a fascinating place. It is such a complicated building, where every single column, every single arch base, is decorated differently. Beneath each pillar, facing toward the hall, stand statues of the greatest figures in natural philosophy and science history. The roof, made of iron girders supporting a glass ceiling, would be a nightmare for me to draw, which is why I was always intimidated and haven’t dared to try yet. Despite this, there is so much interesting stuff there to sketch, and when it is raining or the light outside is dull, I always try to go there to draw. This time, I focused on a view that included both Darwin and Newton, as well as the fossil skull of an ancient kind of elephant. I went crazy with all the bricks…

I sat at one of the tables under the porch of the Weston Library and sketched the neoclassical façade of the Clarendon Building on the other side of Broad Street. A very unimpressive Christmas tree, poorly lit, was positioned outside the building.

This stone gateway looks out place in the main hall of the Weston library modern building. The gate was originally the garden gate to Ascott Park, Ascott House, Oxfordshire. The house was re-built around 1660 and destroyed by fire in 1662. The gate was left standing after the fire, and subsequently bought and displayed here. I find the latin inscription amusing "If you are good, you can enter: Otherwise, not"

One of the historical streets in central Oxford, Turl Street is lined with three colleges—Exeter, Lincoln, and Jesus—as well as several shops. It is dominated by what is now the Lincoln college library tower, which was formally All Saints Church. The tower is a prominent and very recognizable on the Oxford’s skyline.

Couple of hours a week 😔
How much time do you spend painting daily? It must be a lot! Aren't you afraid of burnout? Or to run out of subjects to draw?

A pleasant autumn walk through the picturesque village of Iffley led me to cross the Thames at the Iffley Lock. In summer, I usually cross this lock while traveling downstream on my SUP. Unfortunately, this past summer I only dared to do so once, as the Thames was mostly more sewage than water.

Arriving from a nice walk in Christ Church Meadow, I crossed the narrow pedestrian passerelle that leads to the punts parking spot behind the Head of the River. I sat there and drew Folly Bridge. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland originated as a story told on a boating trip which began from this very spot.

South Park offers one of the best views of Oxford, especially at sunset. From here, you can see at least ten of the city’s iconic spires emerging from the greenery. It’s definitely one of the nicest spots around. Unless if it rained recently; in that case, it turns into a muddy trap. Still a nice view, though. #artstr #grownostr #plebchain #watercolors #art
