I've been Terminally Online for years, and this place has similar vibes to the internet back when it was largely nerds with particular interests on their special forums. I'd have *killed* to be able to use the same account to post and follow my music posts and my fandom ones.

I suspect the userbase here is strongly skewed to others in this demographic, which is why it can be offputting to people who don't know what a bb code is.

With twitter getting even more *fucked* I think I might do another assisted migration and bring some more stavlets over within the next couple of days. I'm going to tweak the protocol this time, by trimming the follow list a little, removing oomfies who it really pissed off (as well as anyone else who does NOT want to be on the list), and also getting stavlets to fill out their profiles before importing the follow csv.

I think all the time about the reddit guy who was so broken by gendering toilet habits that he spent his life taking uncomfortable dumps.

So following on from that research into why people aren't signing up to the fedi, yesterday I tried a little experiment to remove some of the biggest barriers and help people make the jump.

People complain the process of signing up to mastodon is complicated, and it's hard to find the Good Posts.

So I shared with people who wanted to join two things:

1. An invite link to the server I'm on, to stop them having to choose.

2. My follow list in csv format, to populate the tl with good posts.

Mastodon screenshots now circulate there in a "these are good posts" kinda way. We've made it, lads.
