Ridley argues that our ability to trade is THE essential driver of prosperity.

More trades = more prosperity

And we know that better money = more trades.

Bitcoin as a store of value solving time theft (inflation) is massive for humanity…but I think its ability to increase the number of trades via its permissionless, borderless, censorship resistant, internet-native settlement network is an EVEN bigger deal.

Incentives are tough for wallet development. Typically not a clear immediate business model which is why teams go for funding to grow the user base and figure a sustainable revenue model as they go. So you need some benevolent dev who builds something with no expectation of a return (which can and does happen) or some foundation / grant program to fund the development.

Comparing the latest data on the Braiins Mining Insights dashboard to a video I did 1 year ago.

Foundry + AntPool still about 56% of total (although share has shifted significantly away from Ant and towards Foundry in that time).

Is 2025 the year we finally get serious about decentralizing Bitcoin mining (i.e. block template creation)? 🤔

2024 saw a lot of encouraging developments but so far the needle hasn’t moved in a structurally meaningful way.

Lesson: censorship resistance is essential regardless of who is in power. Perhaps now it becomes clearer too why Elon was so aggressively down-ranking anything and everything related to Nostr in the early days...

I still value the network effect of X, but my experience there is getting worse and worse over time (paying more cuck bucks each month just to get more ignored by the algo, content curation getting worse, etc). Meanwhile, my experience on Nostr is getting better and better (clients like Primal improving at an incredible pace, growing albeit still limited diversity of topics/content, more genuine interactions/engagement).

Will be reallocating my time accordingly in 2025 🫡
