They sure are, and even more corrupt and greedy than they are incompetent
Watching this feels like watching the post office give an update on how they are improving their sorting and sending process of physical mail over long distance and will soon hopefully only lose 2% of your mail and your just sitting here using email and wondering who still uses the post office to send messages to other countries

This was the last sunset of 2024 from our view. Yours is better tbh

There is a service in Africa called Machankura which I think does this but I donβt know much about it. Thanks friend πͺ. I know about them yes, I should have added in the note internet or cellular, my mistake
I actually tested it as well a while back and put about 1000 sats on my phone's sim card. It's pretty awesome and in africa it's a game changer in my opinion, because of so many people that still operate with "dumb" phones that can only call and send sms but no internet
Not sure yet how you would use it at a major retailer but very easy for any peer to peer transactions using only a cellular connection
Is there a way to transact sats peer to peer on devices that don't have access to the internet? (apologies if it's a dumb question but I've seen some tech wizardry on nostr the last couple of weeks)

Everyone is bullish on 2025 lately. That could only mean one thing

Wow didn't expect the ZAR to hold better than the AUD against the mighty dollar... What are you guys doing over there mate?
A 70-0 vote that banned it years ago? Wonder how it all happened that every single person voted in favor of the ban. I imagine that someone would vote against it? If they restart operations and flood the market with gold to stack sats it would be poetic
Has anyone come up with a plan to mine that asteroid with like bazillions of tons of precious metals and gold yet? π
Yep. Saw an investment profile of someone close to me the other day. He invested 200 000 ZAR in some old mutual investment scheme about 24 years ago that was advertised at the time as a premium investment opportunity. He liquidated the investment recently which had a value of about 600 000 ZAR now (3 x over 24 years)
He'll have to pay about 100 000 ZAR in capital gains tax, even though he lost most of the purchasing power of the original investment, so technically made a loss, but because the zar lost like 80% of it's value to the dollar over that time it looks like a profit and now he gets taxed on it (and the dollar also lost value over that time)
Could have probably lived off the initial investment back then for at least 3 years and today he won't be able to live off that current value for even one year, but has to give like 22% of the "profit" to the government like wtf π
You win, get taxed. You lose, also get taxed
I used to have a sense of dread having to live in Africa and that, at some point, I would have to "escape" because the governments and politicians are going keep on stealing everything we have while having us blame each other for our misfortunes
Now we can build and, hopefully, prosper without their permission
