Er, and if I am a pedophile?
I said I don't give a shit. Do my posts that support or enable child porn compared to your posts? Are either of us doing anything that makes a difference?
Does this hypothetical CP hoster pay users to create the child porn that the CP hoster profits off of?
You seem pretty confident that you aren't just virtue signalling. I would like to understand your response better, so can you say what virtue signalling is to you?
Oh, you aren't virtue signalling? Then tell me, can you think of anything that you or anyone else could possibly do to catch a competent criminal who is molesting children and distributing their child porn on the darkweb?
Eh, so long as its stored on Fediverse webservers I'm not too worried.
We are lucky that Primal gives a shit. What happens if someone who doesn't give a shit starts running a Blossom server? Are you going to tell the FBI about CP being posted on a Nostr adjacent technology?
You are just virtue signaling. I don't care because the harsh truth is that I CAN'T care. I don't have the RIGHT to care about CSAM. If someone was taking compromising photos and videos of me and if someone was violating my right to modesty then I could snitch on them to the police. But they aren't and I can't.
How about you? Would you star in child porn if it meant you could do something about the child molesters making it?
I'd rather just skip to the end where nobody bothers using them at all.
Kind of? I'm complaining that the takedowns are associated with Nostr, and Nostr is a legally vulnerable protocol. I would be much happier if people posted CSAM on some more robust platform that isn't associated with Nostr.
Either a darknet forum or a random big clearnet image host would work. Neither of those are as directly associated with Nostr as Blossom servers are, and neither of them are particularly harmed by CP being posted on them. Clearnet image hosts because they remove controversial media, and the darknet websites because the state can't do shit against a competent darknet web host.
They were a Fediverse instance, weren't they? If so then they aren't what I'm worried about.
In practice, clients cannot prevent users from posting illegal content. Any censorship must be initiated by the server, the webhost, or the state.
Plus, part of the reason I'm using Amethyst is because it DOESN'T have any content requirements in its terms of service. Not in its APK/Github/F-Droid version at least.
I am aware. Frankly, I don't give a shit if someone watches or distributes CSAM. I would just prefer they did so on servers that aren't associated with Nostr.
I would prefer if Nostr clients could create a whitelist of large and reliable image hosts, that are already experienced, capable, and willing when it comes to moderating legally dangerous content. I worry about a Blossom server that just ignores any CP being posted on them and then draws legal scrutiny towards Nostr.
Nostr is already special; it shouldn't destroy itself trying to be something that's impossible to do right.
Do you think the current strategy of reporting CP over and over is sustainable? Technically I think CP is supposed to be reported to the state, not the person hosting the CP. What happens if someone decides to host their own CP on some VPS? Are you just going to keep going back to look at the CP to check and see if it was taken down? It seems like a major legal liability, and its not one that I want pointed at Nostr. Other platforms moderate their content and users completely. Other platforms have tools that Nostr doesn't. Especially while Nostr is young, I think other solutions are much preferable.
My intuition is that "introductions" should be for new Nostr users introducing themselves, and "asknostr" should be for explicitly asking Nostr non-rhetorical questions.
I want new users to see my posts, I think they would like them. Should I tag every note with "introductions" and "asknostr"?
Verita is constantly reporting CP on Nostr. He works with the image hosts to get it taken down. Me personally, I don't think that image hosting should be part of Nostr's protocol in the first place. I think image hosting is a solved problem, and Nostr should rely on existing websites to host its images.
Verita is talking about clientside censorship though. He's talking about people who choose a client that filters posts by default and who don't change those settings.
I'm wondering if you would consider controlling the state of a car to be analagous to controlling the state of one's Amethyst app. What do you think?
If you are behind the wheel of a car, does the car control where you go?
Yes, at a reasonable hour.
No human verification is needed! I'll inject whatever substance the AI recommends without a second thought! Actually, can we cut out the part where it looks at my blood and stuff? I trust its judgement enough as-is tbh.
Bad news. I realized that my life philosophy was flawed and exploitable and was in need of revision. I've been stressing about this for the past few weeks, and unfortunately I believe that the best way to revise it is to add another condition before I consider other people's speech to be relevant and worthy of consideration.
Previously I believed that an actor's beliefs are not worthy of consideration if they won't share them and engage with you about them. Now I have an additional requirement: they also cannot actively prevent you from determining the truth of their beliefs and statements
I'm sorry..
