I'd like to get a pair for myself but they seem to always be relatively pricey. I'd have to have a bit of a surplus heh
Scary thing is, my brain made it easy for me to read that π
No edits is the literal OPPOSITE of privacy and freedom of speech, what are you talking about?
A passing conversation isn't a permanent record, though. Aside from memory, it's not stored ad infinitum. Moreover, if abuse/harassment occurs, such as the canceling thing, it boils down to hearsay.
None of that is even remotely true without edits and deletion.
Transparency for governments, corporations, money and software. Privacy for the people.
True but when it comes to upgrading your phone, sadly you're forced to do so at some point due to companies idiotically removing security patch support a couple years after it releases π
I like edits or at least the theory behind them. I make typos. I want to fix the typos. However, nostr:nprofile1qqsrhuxx8l9ex335q7he0f09aej04zpazpl0ne2cgukyawd24mayt8gprfmhxue69uhhq7tjv9kkjepwve5kzar2v9nzucm0d5hszxmhwden5te0wfjkccte9emk2um5v4exucn5vvhxxmmd9uq3xamnwvaz7tmhda6zuat50phjummwv5hsx7c9z9 has convinced me that they're bad. His editing and the gamification of his edits are fun, but if hundreds of people in my feeds are doing this, then it would immediately degrade my experience. I would hate it. It would be annoying.
I now see edits as an attack vector and a performance degrader.
Maybe we need a maximum number of edits? 3? I don't know. I'm just thinking out loud.
Maybe we just do away with them altogether? π
Thoughts?
I'm firmly (and I mean FIRMLY) against the idea of restricting edits or deletion. Sure, taking back something you previously said is alright but if you have a lot of takes in the past that you don't want to keep online, you're going to look really bad.
Plus, it's a major privacy concern. I've made posts in the past that were before I learned the importance of privacy. If I couldn't delete them, I'd be keeping myself open to doxxing, not to mention potential embarrassment. Some posts people make can also damage their reputation. If they made a comment that was written in frustration (or even under the effects of exhaustion or alcohol), their entire reputation could be irreparably damaged if edits and deletion didn't exist. I mean, we see how easily people get canceled for comments they made years ago and forgot about, and society today tends to not accept apologies even when they're legitimate and genuine.
So yeah, no edits/deletion = no use for me. I like Nostr but if a basic function of user control and privacy isn't possible, I will not use it. It's objectively a bad thing and that's a Nostr hill I will die on.
Ah gotcha, thanks for the clarification!
Pardon my brain fog but how would Nostr improve an RSS reader? RSS is already decentralized and 100% under the individual's control.
So THIS is why my mom always said wrestling is gay ππ
I was going through my tea stash and found I still had a little bit of a stem hojicha from last winter. Great timing to find it! Hojicha is one of the best Japanese tea types to sip in the cold weather!

Basically my approach as well!
Price aside, I couldn't do carnivore even if I were convinced of its effectiveness (and I'll just say that I'm not). I need and want my fruit, vegetables and grains. I love meat, eggs and cheese but I couldn't do it exclusively.
I've gotten pretty great at avoiding junk food and sweets since deciding to cut back but man, Giant Eagle has these pumpkin ice cream sandwiches that are irresistible. The cookie is a soft gingerbread texture but tastes like pumpkin spice.
IMPECCABLE.
Plus, it's kinda cool because they're not loaded with all the seed oils and preservatives most stuff is nowadays. Sure, they aren't HEALTHY but for a dessert, they could be significantly worse.
I'm really not sure what the heck Trump was thinking with this one. Just because the dude advocates for strange remedies, that doesn't mean he's not part of the system.
Ranger file manager is an absolute game changer when it comes to using Linux at the command line. While I do know how to navigate the file system with default commands, Ranger makes it a lot easier to see where you're at and carry out tasks all within the terminal.

That's a fair point. The funny thing is, if anybody tried to kidnap me, they'd get absolutely nothing because all I've gotten Bitcoin is about $2 in sats from zaps because of all my failures to actually buy Bitcoin π€π
Haha brilliant! I have no idea if I'm blocked by them, but I'm pretty sure I would be considering the fact that I have pretty traditionalist social views and my fiscal views are very libertarian. π€π
Most likely it'll fall under the same issues that I encountered with other decentralized exchanges. I haven't checked that one in particular, but it's very likely that I will run into the same problems because it's not really a problem with the DEXes themselves. So usually down to all the offers requiring too high of a minimum payment or not supporting payment methods that I can use. I mean, I could try it, but I'm not sure if I want to put time into it if it's most likely going to fall under the same problems.
I do appreciate the suggestion, however, and at least now I'm aware of it.
A solid article that goes over the core reasons why you should switch to open source software whenever possible. It really is just *better* in so many ways! #FOSS #opensource #freedom #privacy
