Not just a right, but a duty; and most of us are not doing our share.

I agree Elon Musk is frequently insincere, but is he insincere ENOUGH to survive in the snakepit that is our Western ruling class?

Judging from the incoming wave of lawsuits and investigations, I'm guessing the answer is "no".

Poor Eshara! :-p

Somebody else, say something silly and take the heat for a while!

(Checks own note four times for autocorrect howlers before posting)

We need to see a video of you threshing grain with those nunchucks.

For humanity!

Unfortunately, DissidentSound, you are quite correct about most people's reactions.

For politicians, politics is something you announce that brings in the lucre, likes, and lays.

For writers, activists, and people who bicker on forums, politics is about solving problems and building a better world.

For normies, politics is about putting on a team blazer and shouting yourself hoarse for a few hours every few years.

This problem isn't going away, and all political programs need to allow for it. :-/

You were wrong on every one of those points just now.

And Western governments were wrong on every one of those points then, and are wrong on AI now.

Ignorance doesn't just happen, especially not today. It requires a disciplined, lifelong commitment to avoiding learning.

We need to stop delegating power, especially to the ignorant.

I believe you!

Output per worker, per death, per megajoule, per tonne of CO2 and per unit area skyrocketed with the introduction of electricity, to return to the original topic.

Government (and monopolist) actions to delay this led to so many needless deaths... :(

I've been inside one! Amazingly simple yet ingenious tech. Scary are f--- with all those belts, but pretty quiet. Was making repro wagons and wagon wheels.

I'm sure many factories of that era were less quiet, though! Metal stamping and forging etc

The main user of electricity is industry.

Before industry used electricity, they used power transmission in the form of spinning leather belts, high pressure steam, or direct use of coal / coalgas flame.

Millions of Westerners were killed or maimed in the 1800s. China is only phasing out coal-fired boilers since 1990s.

Sue your highschool, for failure to educate.

All of those things he listed have killed orders of magnitude fewer people than the things they can replace (leather belt power transmission, briquette coal stoves, coal-fired power stations).

Every day those technologies have been delayed is another pile of human corpses.

Haters sorry wen?

Nice Business You Got There

US seeks more than $4 billion from Binance to end case - reports

Changpeng Zhao, the company's founder, could face criminal charges in the United States as part of an agreement to resolve the probe into alleged money laundering, bank fraud and sanctions violations, Bloomberg reported, citing anonymous sources.

Zhao resides in the UAE, which does not have an extradition treaty with the US, but that does not prevent him from coming voluntarily.

The announcement could come as early as the end of the month, although the situation remains fluid.

However, it is likely that Binance will have to pay more than $4 billion, which would be one of the largest fines in a criminal cryptocurrency case.

The publication's source said that the DOJ's proposed method of settling the claims is aimed at striking a balance.

As a result, Binance would be able to continue operating without risking a complete collapse, which could cause negative consequences for markets and holders of digital assets.

Binance has sought to minimize its exposure in any settlement, including pushing for a deferred prosecution agreement.

If Binance and the DOJ agree on a deferred-prosecution-agreement, the Justice Department would file a criminal complaint against the company.

The US would not go forward with a prosecution as long as the company meets prescribed conditions, which usually include paying a substantial penalty and agreeing to a detailed statement of facts outlining its wrongdoing. A process would be set up to monitor the company’s compliance.

As for the charges against Binance directly, according to the source, the DOJ suspects the platform of helping to circumvent US sanctions on Russia and Iran.

In addition, the agency is checking the exchange for transactions aimed at financing terrorist organizations in the Middle East.

If AWFLs, multinational corporations, Ukrainian Neo-Nazis and Israeli Zionists can all ride the same debt-fuelled gravy train, then anything is possible.

Build bridges, people!

The "other" category means "powerless and not part of a strongly-bounded political identity bloc for vote banking / branch stacking purposes".

Australia has different items on its list, but same concept. We actually have quite a few Latin Americans these days, but our politicians haven't found it profitable to try to weld them into a bloc, don't know why.

Makes sense. Absolutely right in the medium term, I'm sure.

But if the West's current level of fail proves unsustainable, all bets are off. :-p

Darn. Reading up, doesn't look practical to mod the household units as the back pressure would be too high for their feeble pumps.

Those designed for marine applications can... but yeah probably not the right technology for your RV...

At society's level, "consistent with brain damage to the decision-making control centres" is spot on :-p

For the individual trashy woman, not so much. Government invests a lot in preventing trashy women from experiencing the consequences of her own actions, of the sort that would have deterred her grandparents from the same behaviours.

Culture matters - but so do incentives.
