I don't have any keys. I've never bought, sold, or transferred any Bitcoin and anything I've ever said to the contrary was a LARP! I only use US dollars and never the paper kind, and all my tax fillings have always been carefully prepared and accurate! 💯 💯 💯

The IRS doesn't even have the manpower to audit all of the wealthy people in the USA. I'm not worth their time. Real tyranny will happen when they finally acquisition an AI system that can audit billions of financial transactions every year. But even then they'll need the lawyers to prosecute cases against people. For now the best thing for most people is to keep your tax fillings as simple as you possibly can. Things like doing itemized deductions raise your audit risk. Take the standard deduction even if you end up paying a little more that way. Keep it as simple as possible and you'll fly under their radar.

Alfons Capone was not prosecuted for racketeering, bootlegging, or murder. He was prosecuted for not paying taxes. But the reason they were able to prosecute him is that they got ahold of his ledgers that detailed all of his income. If there are no records, then they can't prove anything.

Yeah you're suppose to keep any tax related records in the US for 7 years, but I throw everything away. IMO if the IRS wants records maintained they can do it themselves. Not my problem if they they can't figure out whether or not I paid my taxes correctly. 🤷🤣

exactly. the reason for asking for a receipt is forensics.

but most of them are printed on thermal paper these days and those fade fast even when inside a relatively sealed container (UV eventually burns the blackened thermo sensitive layer that has been blackened).

so if the only option was thermal paper anyway, the email will last longer.

it's notable that for the most part if the reason for the receipt is tax they print one out on fancy letterhead format with mostly whitespace, and usually on a laser printer, and it has some prescribed tax receipt format and possibly your tax registration number under your name.

for the most part these days everything is digital anyway.

digital signatures are becoming a thing a bit in some places and mostly optional but eventually keys like our nostr keys will be the norm in business.

for right now, the whole thing is wide open for easy, evidence free tampering.
