Big Thief and Lucinda Williams didn’t disappoint. Hard to believe yesterday was our first full day alone together since both our kids were born. Also, my first concert since Covid. Thanks to my mother-in-law for giving us a day off.

These west coast home prices have barely budged despite interest rates now north of 7%.

No surprise so many people are moving back to the Midwest and the South. I would too if it weren’t for already owning a house and my wife’s family living here.

Imagine being a young family and trying to pay $3.5k+ for housing before utilities, a couple thousand per month in daycare expenses, student loans, and a grocery bill easily over a thousand per month. Shit’s wild.

You ever get forwarded an email exchange and then asked for a response, but the forwarder didn’t summarize anything or detail what they want from you?

Don’t do that.

Grateful to have this Japanese bakery nearby. Treated ourselves to some donuts this morning.

I went in looking for a cheap guitar that I didn’t have to worry too much about it being gouged by my kids. What I didn’t expect was to find such beautiful tone out of this beat up old blue guitar I almost didn’t even pick up off the rack. Wow. After I get some Waverly tuners on it, I’ve found more than a just back porch guitar.

No batteries, grid connected via an import / export meter. I pay NZ 30 cents per kWh imported and receive 11 cents per kWh exported. During the day like 9am to 4pm the solar runs most everything that’s a light load. It’s winter here so peak output an hour each side of noon is 1500-2000 watts. Summer it should make around 5000 watts peak.

Did you install yourself, act as your own general contractor, or hire a professional to manage the install?

I would absolutely love to do this, but I’m sort of afraid of being taken for a ride. Out here, there have been a lot of shady companies popping up, renting the panels under not so great of terms. I really should do more research on reputable companies.
