Krita is excellent for digital illustration (and better than GIMP for that chore in my evaluation) but for tasks like photo editing GIMP is more straightforward with less learning curve.
It "only" took a 7 year development period, but the long awaited GIMP 3.0 update is finally here! The best free open source image editor just got better :)
