It’s a protocol tussle between the World Wide Web Consortium recommended Activitypub decentralised social media protocol (Mastodon, FireFish, Threads, PixelFed, Wordpress etc) https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/ and ATProtocol (Bluesky).

It’s disappointing seeing the attention that is migrating away from Twitter heading to Bluesky, further fragmenting people’s social media graphs when a functioning protocol already exists.

nostr:npub1ntq8qqr07h3znwxcx7nttsgdgtzcheh26w2qex3npeysep6w06ls69rg38 I'm not meaning to complain at you specifically, but the "vulnerable" narrative as though this particular disease isn't going to rip the lungs or the liver or the cardiac function out of anyone boggles me.

We're all vulnerable. (Some of us are like to die, but you don't have to be like-to-die to be vulnerable.)

My take is "outside your immediate household in air that could have had someone in it? Respirator, worn continuously until you return." Hospitals more so than most places.

nostr:npub15dmlle22zd4ypr05le5mttr6xusfp5yld4nq08qe9yzaa8nvj23qfend6f all our patients deserve to be protected from infection by their carers. Last thing anyone wants is their presenting complaint to be complicated by an avoidable infection

nostr:npub1ntq8qqr07h3znwxcx7nttsgdgtzcheh26w2qex3npeysep6w06ls69rg38 Thank you! My 12yo recently had to be sedated to have his dislocated elbow treated - it stressful to first have to ask that people treating him mask and then deal with the fact that they were wearing baggy blue medical masks. His dad is a transplant recipient, so bringing COVID home could be disastrous.

nostr:npub1pzmvmme07e0txtzw7059shxu7mz8djlt3z882j2tlx33tv5ekj3s22n3d0 exactly, many of us are directly connected to someone who’d prefer to minimise the risk of avoidable infection

This video demonstrates how well fit-tested respirators work as source control vs no masks vs loose fitting medical masks.

No complicated modelling required.

We can achieve higher levels of risk reduction by having our healthcare workers wear these when looking after vulnerable patients, particularly at times where staff are at higher risk of infection (recently symptomatic, close contact of someone unwell at home, or high community prevalence)

Great seeing a disinformation section on the ABC debunking videos and narratives circulating around the #thevoice referendum.

We need something like this for every significant public interest issue.

Whatever you do you as an anaesthetic department, don’t buy the Draeger Perseus A500. It has a uniquely terrible knocking sound during IPPV that the company is unable to fix.

The proposition that “NPIs were ineffective” during the pandemic flies in the face of overwhelming evidence given the experience of 50% of Australia and 100% of New Zealand that experienced no sustained local transmission during the #pandemic with early and effective implementation of multiple NPIs.

Context and goals for the region are key considerations when understanding how and when they are effective.

While it makes sense long term to have healthcare workers wear masks when infectious at work, there is little point wearing a loose fitting surgical mask instead of a fit-tested respirator.

nostr:npub1ntq8qqr07h3znwxcx7nttsgdgtzcheh26w2qex3npeysep6w06ls69rg38 sadly I will never forget the phase pre lockdown wheb we were screening and scrambling to admit and contain a handful of cases, whilst life and #SarsCoV2 community transmission continued as normal.

Working so hard before the full #COVID19 onslaught had even begun!

Certainly unforgettable, if not exactly enjoyable. A lot of personal and family concerns at the time.

nostr:npub19jzp5d9w32c2fpvd5hyq5z7sqpes6m3c2appm3zwangpasvd6zyqt4dp8p I’m not an anxious person by nature, but the uncertainty and lack of preparedness at the beginning led to sleepless nights. I remember taking a call at work from the well meaning school principle asking me not to communicate directly to the other parents as I had told them that we were pulling our children out of school, and around 2 weeks later schools across the state shifted to remote learning.

I don’t want a replay of that lack of preparedness in future.
