nostr:npub13levfmuj9uu5gy4mhh0tg5nkujqujkyky8220rd0dkwpm4p950eqss6saf any strong opinions on the Apple 410 plotter? in my year-long quest to find a plotter locally, one came up.

i'm noticing there seems to be a bit of a gauntlet to run in terms of pushing data to it via serial.

nostr:npub1ttt4pj9f07ejvrelddv6ryayy20wk4t0yv0m3u8fwptj604h82zs4cdpyz If you’re interested in rounding out a collection, I’d say it’s worth it. It’s a odd machine, in terms of both how it functions and that it was Apple badged. It’s the same form factor as the original ImageWriter.

I’ve never used period software to plot to it but it’s incredibly easy to use USB to serial adapters to plot to it.

In practice, the biggest issues are the pens are weird and nearly impossible to find. It’s also incredibly slow. The pen holder is essential.

Still amazed I can get a picture of the Milky Way with my phone.

Then burned it to the W27C512 EEPROM.

Then I prototyped the board with jumpers to a breadboard and tried it to see if we can at least fool the MiniPRO into thinking the 27C512 is a 6309 (equiv).

Happy to report that it works so I’ve at least swizzled the pins in the right order! Won’t know for sure until it’s in circuit but it’s promising.

Since the minimum order for PCBs was 5 and I only need one, I’ll have 4 boards each of the Apple Lisa motherboard, IO board, LisATX board, and diagnostic/riser cards to sell. I’m in USA. Send me a DM if interested!

#PowerBook 160 says hello! 11”x17” drawn on a Roland DXY 1200 #PenPlotter using #Python. The shading is a bit heavy but it works I think. #RetroComputing #VintageApple #VintageMac

Anyone have a Lisa RAM card they'd want to sell me? (hopefully better than the current eBay listing of $229.)

(Thx for a boost!)

nostr:npub10lz9ejxyzmm5st3qper2ey037dhy3fyc0xkyw325mrdxwlhq67zqgm0m9n I started with that but mixed it with some other white ink. All of the white inks I’ve tried settle after some time and are stubborn to mix back into suspension again.

nostr:npub10lz9ejxyzmm5st3qper2ey037dhy3fyc0xkyw325mrdxwlhq67zqgm0m9n Thanks! They’re old disposable plotter pens of unknown brand that have been cleaned and filled with ink. Lots of trial and error. Be prepared to get ink everywhere 😅

Noodling around today with some #Python and drew this abstract plot on 13x19 paper with the Roland DPX-2000 #PenPlotter. What do you see?

Remember Google's Quick, Draw! where you scribble a picture of a given word?

The Line-Us plotter has a nervous, shaky-line quality that pairs nicely with these doodles.

nostr:npub13levfmuj9uu5gy4mhh0tg5nkujqujkyky8220rd0dkwpm4p950eqss6saf I haven't found any KVM devices that had a configuration like this. It would have been from the first Mac transition era (68k-PPC). I also considered some kind of presentation system.

nostr:npub1qufm7fwtztwnq9gev55m2aveuw5qlu7qz53dm6ymmzshsxv7auqsk0uwx3 I remembered that the same cable was in a lot of stuff I was going to get (but ended up not getting). But I have the pictures of the other cables that likely came with it. Honestly reminds me of something Blackbox would make.

nostr:npub13levfmuj9uu5gy4mhh0tg5nkujqujkyky8220rd0dkwpm4p950eqss6saf Has anyone ever wondered, what computers Apple (or maybe Chiat Day)used to create this short sequence? (GFX & sound) It would have been doable on an Amiga, but the Amiga wasn't done yet when this aired. Some people even used traditional cell animation to create things that looked that way.
