Long time Bitcoiner, new to Nostr!

Yes thank you, I ended up with a Lightning node on Voltage and also BTC Pay Server, mostly just to play around. But that's also given me a lightning address to receive sats. I also made a nostrplebs.com address to use for Nostr. And then I've got the getalby extension to make payments from my lightning node using LND connect.

Not going so smoothly on mobile though because I don't know how to link my own lightning node/wallet to send zaps on Amethyst Nostr client. So I'm just using Phoenix wallet where I still have some sats to send zaps. So I've ended up with two wallets, one for desktop to use from my own Lightning node, and then a completely separate wallet to send zaps from mobile. Still I can also receive zaps to my node so that's good.

How are you getting on?

The only way to beat the statists is to become richer than them using #bitcoin.

It's invaluable that we can opt out using #nostr, and encryption in general. But we must become wealthier than them to truly win in the long run.

We must become the new elite, and use our wealth to do good in the world.

Nobody seems to have answered your question. As far as I'm aware, your notes are broadcast to all the relays that you have selected (in the settings of your nostr client).

You can find more relays to add here: https://nostr.watch/relays/find

The more you have the more likely your notes are to be seen by others. Some relays are of course only for specific things or require payment to join.

I'm also new here, but I hope this helps!

Tell me about it. Just got setup the other day, even just on Voltage it's much more involved than running your own regular full node. All the stuff to do with channels, a lot to learn.

Hey, ask nostr:npub14wxtsrj7g2jugh70pfkzjln43vgn4p7655pgky9j9w9d75u465pqvagcye for a invite or other users with #getAlby

You can join our discord.getalby.com or calls at https://cal.com/getalby to get help with set up!

Thank you I really appreciate it!

Exactly, I was thinking, damn I run my own IT services company, I've been into computers my whole life, I have my own node running on my own hardware (not Umbrel or Start9 or anything) and an Electrum server, and all sorts of other stuff self hosted, and yet this is properly complicated.

To be fair, I guess not everything will need non-custodial lightning as it's just a payment processing system really, so custodial is probably fine for most. But then, what about if you just want everything non-custodial and you want to do a bit of zapping on Nostr? It's a lot to go through, but I wanted to learn about the the tech so it's all worth it in the end.

I don't know, do some nostering I guess 😅

I never got into Twitter or any other social media really. This is the first time I've been enthusiastic about it at all. Good tech and good people.

Just setup a #lightning node, a bit cheating because I did it on Voltage. But I thought it'd be a gentler introduction because there's so much to learn about lightning nodes compared to regular #bitcoin.

In fact now that I've actually been using Lightning it makes me realise that if you want non-custodial and the ability to receive payments, it's way harder than on chain with learning about channels and adding liquidity, and all the server requirements.

But still I got there in the end, and now I've got the lightning node and BTC Pay Server on Voltage, the getalby extension, phoenix wallet on mobile, and hopefully now the ability to receive #zaps as well as send on both desktop and mobile, and a nostr address, LN URL and hopefully everything I need to get started.

Oh damn is it!? Just seen, thanks for the heads up!

I guess now I have to figure out somewhere to move my funds and then reconnect it all. What lightning wallet do you use? The built in Primal wallet?

Me too, still trying to figure it all out. I'm on the web, just setup Mutiny wallet and the Alby extension with Nostr Wallet Connect and that's all working nicely, but now I need to figure out how to set a lightning address in my profile. All very exciting though.

I'm trying to link a lightning wallet to Nostr to do zaps. Is Alby the best way of doing that?

And if I need an Alby account, does anyone have an invite code? It seems you need one. Or is there a better option altogether.

I don't currently have a lightning node but that's my next step.

Thanks!

Thanks so much. Definitely interested in the London event by the way! I'm an IT consultant by trade, so pretty educated on cyber security, privacy etc, and very into the philosophy of Bitcoin. So I'm not sure, maybe I'd have something to add!

Thank you! Wow you've got some great posts 👍

Next thing I have to figure out a wallet and how to do zaps!

Thanks so much. I'm also quite into music production, just checking out your music now on Bandcamp 👍
