Ironically, he saw ornament as a state imposition:

āAll right, then, the plague of ornament is recognized by the State and subsidized by State funds. But I look on this as retrogression.ā

Super interesting when companies show where they source materials from, gives a hint at what different countries have specialized their production on.
However, countries get rich not by hosting the suppliers, but by hosting the sourcing companies, which capture more value.
