Join our sex-positive, #LGBT friendly, #porn friendly Nostr relay ( https://relay.s3x.social )! Our site is a work in progress, but our aim is to help the adult industry and the LGBT community get up to speed on Nostr. šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ

I can answer that… Because none of their customers use crypto. Various porn companies have tried to offer crypto payment options. None have been successful with it, so the others don’t even try. I think Nostr could change that.

I was looking for how to speed up nos.social with loading images and I thought about proxying the images, so they're smaller and served through a CDN... turns out that Iris already does that!

Using https://imgproxy.iris.to/ and the https://github.com/imgproxy/imgproxy tool.

I didn't see a discussion about it, but i think it's interesting. On one level, it's a privacy issue, you take requests which were being logged at what ever url they find in a nostr post, which leaks a bunch of info... and puts it in a proxy. So it protects privacy but also shifts where your ip address is logged to iris's relay. This actually feels like it is a step forward for privacy, but it is a tradeoff. Getting smaller images served faster is the primary benefit. If nostr is going to compete with centralized apps it needs to feel snappy. CDN's help a lot with that.

Scuttlebutt directly shares media from peers, and it's very slow, often the no peer with the media you want is online when you're viewing it. Many apps, including planetary, don't do a good job at downscaling the images for resolutions needed to view in an app, so the files are bigger than they need to be as well.

Just to be clear… Are you thinking of using Iris' imgproxy or running your own?

Paying for the bandwidth will be an issue for #[2] - I'm not sure he's monetizing things well enough to afford it. I've always seen a proxy service as a paid upgrade to Nostr. But the clients would need to set a standard and then let the users choose which proxy service they want to use. And there'd need to be some type of AUTH.

And then there's the issue of videos… Not sure anyone will want to proxy those given their size. Maybe if it's served via HLS, but I'm guessing doing it would be "non-trivial".

Just changed the colors of the theme for our website. It was looking a bit boring and feminine before. Now it's darker so hopefully it comes across as more mysterious/sexy looking…

Take a look - https://s3x.social

(Critical feedback welcome!)

Just spent much of the day fleshing out the information on our website. It's now a pretty good intro to Nostr. (Nostr shouldn't require all these instructions!!!)

Not quite done yet, but feel free to check it out and give me feedback…

(BTW, in my copious spare time I want to change the theme to something dark. It'll be sexier!)

#[0] - Now that Parler has shut down you'll just have to post your Cooter Daniels pictures here on Nostr… 🤣

Here's a bill that's been introduced in Texas that could impact people hosting Nostr relays and clients…

https://www.ynot.com/texas-bill-broad-civil-liability-obscenity/

"A bill introduced in the Texas House of Representatives would create civil liability for obscenity offenses by any defendant, including any 'information content provider' or 'interactive computer service', that either 'engages in the obscenity or knowingly or intentionally benefits from participating in an entity that engages in the obscenity.'"

"The bill also holds an 'information content provider or interactive computer service' liable for damages 'arising from the distribution, transmission, or display of harmful material to a minor if, knowing the character and content of the material, the provider or service knowingly or intentionally benefits from participating' in disseminating the 'harmful material' by 'facilitating, aiding, encouraging, or contributing to' the dissemination 'in a manner that: (1) is readily accessible to minors; or (2) includes a minor’s visual image, audio voice, or participation in any manner.'"

Notice they've covered by Nostr clients and relays. And I doubt "I didn't look at the Kind 1984 events" will be a viable defense…

WHO YOU VOTE FOR MATTERS!!

So here's something to think about…

"German Police Ramp Up Plan to Eliminate All Explicit Content From Twitter"

https://www.xbiz.com/news/272937/german-police-ramp-up-plan-to-eliminate-all-explicit-content-from-twitter

"German police have been targeting and intimidating specific Twitter users who post or retweet explicit material, in an attempt to move forward local bureaucrat Tobias Schmid’s campaign to purge all open platforms of adult content."

ā€œThe distribution of pornography on the internet is only permitted in closed user groups with prior age verification. Since this is not the case on Twitter, the distribution of pornography via Twitter in its current form is not permitted in Germany.ā€

When the German government discovers Nostr they will start doing the same to Nostr users.

WHO YOU VOTE FOR MATTERS!!

It's been 2 months since I first asked my hosting company to set up a nostream server so I could do a relay. Nostream had a dependency my server OS didn't support. So the first strategy was to upgrade the OS. But then I gave it more thought and realized that the server probably didn't have enough RAM. So a month into it we figured out I need to change servers, not just have an OS upgrade.

As of yesterday the relay is up in dev mode, BUT the guy doing the migration/install then went on vacation for 2 weeks. (UGH!) Hopefully another support tech can take over and get things working properly. But we're close.

Then there's the issue that New York State has weird rules about crypto and I can't use ZBD - so I can't enable the (easy) payment method for nostream.

Bottom line - it will probably be a few more weeks before the relay is fully up and running. But it's a priority for me, so we'll see…

I see pornstars loving Nostr. And when they come, each of them will bring their 10s of thousands of ā€œnormieā€ followers as well.

Paul - have you spoken to a lawyer/solicitor (whatever you call them)? I don’t see legal issues for relays. I see legal issues for client apps and media servers. The relay is not the one presenting the image/video. In fact it’s hard to figure out which relay is the source since there can be many sources of the same note.

I'm actively working on getting a porn-friendly, #nostream based Nostr relay up and running. Unfortunately my server is CentOS 7 which has an incompatibility with one of the requirements for nostream, so my host is building a new server for me. When I'm migrated over I should should be able to get the relay up and running pretty quickly. Hopefully our relay will be the first porn industry relay. šŸ¤ž
