Proof of Work Service Provider for Nostr - provides a way for clients to request a target proof of work difficultly (for event id) for an event prior to publishing.
Next, hopefully we add support for some clients apps, so it can really be tested.
Draft NIP included in repo.
I’ll do some more testing today, however code is available now. Feedback/bug details welcome.
Suggestions for a lightning payment processor even more welcome.
Great useful tool by #[1] to help users check where their notes can be seen
#[0]
Make sure to convert your Note ID into hex format using https://damus.io/key
In a weird way it kind of feels like brute forcing the information 😆
Unsure of a better way for what it achieves however. Maybe we will have a future command to ask a relay if they store a (significant amount of a) pubkey’s data - kind of like, is this person a member. I don’t know.
Fiatjaf with his original manifesto and Branle around Feb 2021 I think.
I only followed #[2] and #[3] because I couldn’t find any other pubkeys anywhere.
I’d also seen a YouTube video, I think it was #[4] who mentioned Nostr and Bitcoin.
This was my first ever post as wakoinc - “Hello Nostr!”.
Yep. But if the bot only DMs itself, host your own data on a private relay - don’t ask the network to baby you.
Pay to relay and proof of work will likely offset this issue anyway.
Yep. I agree.
I think the 1000 true fans model can be enough to start making viable Nostr income to enable people’s continued contributions.
And it’s a tough question too, are the paid customers enough to offload freemium at a smaller scale. It’s possible it just isn’t - without significant scale like FAANGT.
I also think we are maybe 10x user growth away from being break even for server costs for many hosts.
And likely 100x away from more serious income.. but likely not comparable to full time work in most countries. Unless a subscription model with enough value for $5/month x1000 becomes viable.
Is a challenge then perhaps subscription payments? Would you consider other models like freemium/premium, etc?
I don’t know of many fully donation or any value for value business cases that have been sustainable for tech products. Extra revenue maybe, but never primary.
I think payments will start to get larger using Nostr. As people feel more comfortable with wallets and payments are not scams, the transaction amounts will rise (even if just targeted ones and the median/average) remains micro.
We kind of have similar with the image AI bots, where they send an invoice and a reply once paid.
But I agree we can do better here. And maybe send content via DM, so it’s not public.
This is the way.
What do we need to better support creators joining (and staying with) Nostr?
We have donations/support covered. We have lots of always improving apps.
We have high engagement.
The more creators we can bring onto Nostr, the richer the network will be.
PS. I hate seeing “Make a contribution via _PayPal_” on Spotify. Short circuiting the middle-man is something Nostr can bring in spades.
Long press 🤙 for custom pop up
I think it’s too late now. All stems back to advertising and marketing being the root of all evil.
I would have loved to in person say, “let me just check my email, haienrudjeornr67@trashmail.com”
Is it me, or did a lot of people I am following stopped posting on nostr and activity is going down?
I haven’t posted about it yet, but my data is showing activity numbers have dropped from the two major peaks and is still declining.
I’d like to understand it better. Was it bad experiences, was it not valuable enough, was it too many apps, was it hard to get started with following and relays and apps and pubkey storage?
I don’t know. But all growth comes in spurts. Not too worried.
I think the graffiti gangs infiltrated and just wanted to tag from home.
I may be a little stupid, but I’m pretty annoyed at my email being stolen so often from large org hacks. I get bounced between endless mailing lists.
While Nostr isn’t setup for it today, I’d love to give out pubkeys to organisations to contact me on. Unique per organisation.
Then I can only listen to one’s I care about - and turn off email entirely. #I’llBeAtMyPubkey
Well in this case they don’t seem to be DMing random people, however around 4K by memory were sent to a different pubkey.
For normal users, nothing except this stuff clogs relays and makes your experience worse performance wise mostly.
Well, the goal was to make a public version. For now it’s internal only as my operational dashboards.
People love it. I love it. It’s just a lack of time challenge atm.
This is for my pubkey last 30 days.

Most of them were self-DMs. Obviously it’s all encrypted.
Most likely a way to try get free storage.
