"Proxy" in this context Vitor is using means image proxy. It's for specific requests and controlled mainly by the client developer.
Different than "proxy", as in an http or socks proxy that is chosen by the user. That would be the same general concept as VPN, not the image proxy.
There are ways to do this, actually.
