It should be both IMHO, clients and relay operator should try to do their best to help and make more effective a mute, but the thing about creating a new npub is the reason everyone, not just girls, has to be prepared for the infinity of morons out there, and the non-morons should unite to both give mental/moral support to any victime of any kind of abuse, and unite against morons perpetrators.. #plebchain

This sort of mechanism only works on centralized platforms where there’s actual penalty for being blocked - having to go through verification again if you wish to continue harassing.

Agree, the cost of creating an account is very low, but it also takes time. From creating to following the harassed user. It is a good way to protect privacy by making it impossible for muted accounts to see my content. Increasing the time cost of harassing accounts is also a good way to mute them.

Making mutes REALLY persistent (down to the reactions, zaps, quotes, DMs, trendlists, etc.) would be enough for the client to focus on. That's already a lot of work.

I think it's something limited to men who themselves belong to some exotic fringe, such as fundamentalist religious groups, because "their" women are so tailor-made to their own preferences (and therefore valuable because so "well-fitting") that other women don't really interest them much.
