Yes, 2.6% of TOTAL electricity produced was outright wasted. ~107 BILLION kWh produced but not used.
(For context, that is almost 20x the amount of electricity the entire country of El Salvador consumed in 2019.)
Soon, virtually all curtailed energy will be used to mine Bitcoin instead, paying the producers to put it to productive use: securing the world’s most powerful network.
