@TheGuySwann @BTCsessions Just think of draining the mug as draining shitcoin liquidity.

@shouldbuybtc @CoinCornerMolly Even with that, though, the bar tab has to be closed at the end of the night. There is no obligation to do so on Lightning. You can keep the channel open indefinitely, and you have cash finality without posting your signed channel state to the mempool to close it.

@shouldbuybtc @CoinCornerMolly That's entirely centralized, though. There has to be a bar tender debiting your tab and crediting mine, and has absolutely no use to pay anyone who doesn't have a tab with the bar.

@shouldbuybtc @CoinCornerMolly Lightning, by contrast, allows you to pay someone who has no channel directly with you, nor a channel with anyone you have a channel opened with, by routing the payment through multiple hops in a way that no centralized coordinator/bartender is needed.

@stephanlivera Too many have relied on the fiat credit machine to get where they are. They will need to be burned by that same machine before the blinders come off to the systemic damage it causes.

@TheGuySwann Does Greenlight from Blockstream count, since you hold your keys?

@CoinCornerMolly All analogies break down, of course, but the bar tab analogy is not too bad for explaining how a single Lightning channel works in a vacuum. Not so useful for explaining how Lightning works as a network of interconnected channels, though.

@Ben_deWaal @CoinCornerMolly This is the very analogy I used to explain Lightning to my kids, and it definitely helped them wrap their minds around it.

@BTCGandalf The beauty of it is, they can change the code to PoS at any time. They just can't force those of us running nodes to switch to their code.

@_tdudenhoeffer @realBitcoinDog Mining is taking pending transactions and etching them immutably into digital versions of stone tablets via the expenditure of computational energy, such that it would take a greater amount of energy to forge previously completed tablets than to honestly contribute to new ones.

Today I attempted to assist someone navigating the walled gardens of the likes of Zelle, PayPal, Popmoney, and Cash App for moving around dollars. The benefit of #Bitcoin on Lightning has rarely been so tangible.

@jmbushwrites The serpent's lie was twofold. It was a profound understatement of the cost, as you have pointed out, and it was also a profound overstatement of the benefit. Sounds like a very close parallel indeed to the propaganda we are fed (pun intended) about unsound money.

On this day in 2018, Bitcoin's price closed at $6,608. The current price is just above $19,400, that's nearly 3x. Find me a single time in Bitcoin's history that you would be under water after 4 years.
